Championship Trio Linked With Simpson
Sunday, 30th Jan 2022 09:39

Town striker Tyreece Simpson is reportedly a target of Championship trio Cardiff, Hull and Barnsley.

The 19-year-old was recalled from his loan at Swindon last week, having scored 11 goals since joining them in August, due to what manager Kieran McKenna referred to as “a contractual issue that’s being sorted out”.

The club and Simpson’s representatives are in discussions regarding a new long-term contract with his current terms up this summer but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further year.

Now, according to The Sun on Sunday, the Bluebirds, Tigers and Tykes are all keen on signing Simpson.

Town are unlikely to be looking at selling Simpson at this point in his development. On Tuesday McKenna said: “Obviously he’s a player that we value very, very highly, we’ve been keeping really close tabs on what he’s being doing at Swindon. Really pleased with his progress.

“I got to meet him yesterday for the first time. A lovely kid and we want him to be a part of the future and a part of what we’re doing here.”

Swindon are keen to bring him back to the County Ground on loan for the second half of the season.

Manager Ben Garner told the Swindon Advertiser on Friday: “Tyreece was called back by Ipswich for contractual reasons on their part — they want him to agree a new deal there, and if he does that he will be allowed back out on loan.”

Hope the lad still wants to stay with us, if he doesn't it won't matter what length of contract we offer him. He offers us a real different type of player to what we currently have in the team. Not convinced on McCauley despite the great start he has had here, he seems very ineffectual at the moment. How many games have we now gone without having a shot on goal, surely we should be able to create at least one opening a game against whoever we are playing.

It's got the whiff of a greedy agent written all over it , which ultimately means it's down to how much money that agent can make. Have they no shame?

Can see the link with Hull, Simpson's agents have a large Turkish contingent and Hull have been taken over I believe by a Turkish owner.

Selling him at this stage of his career would scream of the decision to sell Jordan Rhodes so early on.
Not a chance we should be doing it.

I'm not sure the lad wants to be here. He's tasted first team football and he must know that his chances at Town are limited, as things stand. However who knows what our attacking resources will look like next season. If Bonne doesn't start scoring again, not necessarily as prolific as earlier in the season, why would we want to buy him? What will happen with Pigott? Jackson gone.Norwood future? Anyway he's only 19 fgs !

After yesterday's display by our strikers he shouldn't be going anywhere.

Our goal threat is non existent at present and it is costing us games. Is it down to the strikers or the lack of creativity from mid field ? We didn't force a single save out of the opposition goalkeeper yesterday.

We have Bonne, Piggott and Jackson who can't hit a barn door at present so I don't think he should be going anywhere. He should be given a chance to see if he's ready for the first team here.

We have an option to sign him for another year, but at the end of that he can leave for free. If he wants to sign a new contract then all well and good. If not we will have to make a decision in the summer.

If McKenna doesn't want to play him in the first team then loan him out to Swindon again and try to agree a longer contract to increase his value if/when we sell him in the future.

Will be why he hasn't signed a contract yet then. Greedy agent in his ear saying more £££ + Champ clubs interested. Fact is that those clubs are unlikely to beat anything we can offer and are miles away from Ipswich.
