Nolan Joins Bristol Rovers
Tuesday, 1st Feb 2022 18:13

Departed Blues midfielder Jon Nolan has joined League Two Bristol Rovers.

The 29-year-old left Town yesterday after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Nolan joined the Blues along with team-mate Toto Nsiala from Shrewsbury in the summer of 2018, following their former Shrews manager Paul Hurst to Portman Road.

In total, he made 59 starts and 11 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring 10 goals, most recently featuring in the 1-0 home defeat by Sunderland in January last year. Soon afterwards, he was relegated to training with the U23s by then-manager Paul Lambert.

The Liverpudlian picked up a knee injury in training on his successor Paul Cook’s first day at the club and suffered a calf problem in pre-season and then a further setback in the autumn.

Good Luck Jon Nolan, with your New Club.
Lot's of Good Football left in Nolan, with an injury free run of games.

Will need to demonstrate a solid return of character and be able to be injury free so he might regain his best form .
Good luck!l

59 starts since joining in August 2018. You can dress it up how you like, can't all be down to unlucky with injuries. Having a bad attitude can also be a big factor. Should have gone when the club had a mass clear out. He'll probably be like McGoldrick now, never hardly miss a game and be full of running. For whatever reason he was not a good signing for us and can feel very lucky to have been paid so much for so little in return.

Will be an excellent acquisition for a lge2 club if he can gain his fitness back.

Thanks Jon - 10 goals in 59 games ain't bad for a midfielder. Hope you get playing very soon and stay injury free.

Thing I liked bout Nolan is as soon as he gets the ball he looks to go forward. Shame bout his injury record but good luck nonetheless

They are warming up the treatment table as we speak as that's where he will spend 90% of the season 😉

Presumably Lambert had him training with the U23s because he had told him what a losing manager he was. Well done and good luck.

By my reckoning, Janoi Donacien must be the last of the Paul Hurst signings left at the club.

A lot of the 'old' Ipswich now playing in league 2...

TimmyH. Liam Gibbs went to Norwich (they list him in the under-23 team), Dozzell to QPR, Downes to Swansea, McGuinness to Cardiff, Bishop to Lincoln and a centre-back, (who's name escapes me) to Plymouth, but I think that the rest went to League 2 as you say.

As for that lot of loanees we signed last January, the less said the better!

Good luck John, you deserve it, always gave your all to ITFC when able.

Probably goes down as one of the worst £-£ signings ever. Highly marked in the history of incompetent manager decisions on purchases with the following:

Kayden Jackson
Lee Martin
Grant Leadbitter
Tomas Priskin
Matteo Sereni
Sam Parkin
Toto Nsiala

Taking into account transfers and wages and at the clubs financial time.

Easy to dismiss him with short memories...the start of the 2020/2021 Season, when we started with him alongside Dozzell and Bishop, they were firing.

2-0 home to Wigan, 2-0 away at Bristol Rovers, 2-0 at home to Rochdale, 1-1 with MK Dons, 4-1 away at Blackpool (though Nolan was injured for that one), 2-0 at home against Accrington Stanley…the we lost a couple as we were silly enough to drop Bishop to the bench, then beat Gillingham and Crewe at home & then Nolan and Dozzell picked up their Red Cards, and it got splintered. When those three we in there together and Gwion and Norwood were on the pitch we were looking like a good team.

The winter was not good to us and we didn't do very well after the break and the players got Covid! Not sure Lambert had his faculties back together for managing. should have stayed in bed, and let Matt Gil lead the team til he got better, instead of getting grumpy with Nolan, Jackson and co. The worst bit of last season was the Paul Cook era, lets not forgot. Horrific!

Would have liked to have seen Jon Nolan back in an Ipswich Shirt under Mckenna...he'd have been handy these weeks with Morsy and Evans out, but it's not to be. Best of luck at Bristol Rovers lad!

Best of luck.
First part of last season he was looking the best version of him we had seen.
Sadly injuries etc ended that run.
Think he will do well.

All the best to Nolan. Its slightly disconcerting just how many players we have signed during the reign of the previous three managers, that have not been good enough and moved sideways or down a level. Really do question the intel and decision making.

Although I wish him the best , we simply cannot hang on to players like this who add little to the mix other than squad fillers.

Bristol Rovers may well benefit from his experience but chances are he will break down again . I don't wish it on him, but the law of averages says it will happen sooner rather than later.

Mojo; I think you're right, I had forgotten Kayden Jackson.
