Former Boss Cook Linked With Chesterfield Talks
Monday, 7th Feb 2022 18:39

Former Blues boss Paul Cook is reportedly in talks with his former club Chesterfield regarding the management vacancy at the National League club.

Cook was first linked with a return to the Spireites last week and now, according to BBC Radio Sheffield, the 54-year-old is in talks with the Derbyshire club, who are second in the National League table.

Chesterfield are managerless after their Ipswich-born boss James Rowe departed by mutual consent on Friday having been suspended on January 24th.

Cook was previously in charge at Chesterfield between 2012 and 2015 during which time he saw them to the League Two title and League One play-offs.

The Liverpudlian was sacked by Town in December after nine months at Portman Road.

If he wants it hope he gets it.
Whilst his management here didn't work out well, Him the human being was a great man and did a lot of good around the community etc.

I hope he does well if he ends up at Chesterfield. He came across as a very decent man.
I was sad to see him go and still believe it could have worked out well for us if he was given a few more months. We are doing better results wise now for sure which is down to Kieron McKenna but it is still 90% Paul Cooks team.

Wherever he goes his next club will get an entertaining brand of football with goals. Didn't get the rub with us but wish him good luck.

I wish Cookie all the best if he takes the job.
Very pleased with what K.Mckenna has achieved so far,but I'll always wonder what might have been, had Cook been given a little longer and at least until the January window. He clearly stated before he left,he knew exactly what was required in January to strengthen the squad.
Having said that I hope we are not locking horns with Chesterfield in a couple of years.

I see that Cookie was in the studio reporting on one of the games on Sky last week. I don't think TV really suits him either so hope he gets the Chesterfield job. They love him up there apparently.

You heard it here first: Paul Cook blew the biggest job he'll ever get here at ITFC. That was his peak. He'll now ply his trade primarily at smaller clubs in the lower leagues.

All the best Paul. Had a heart of gold and loved the club. I hope you find some consistency at Chesterfield because we played some of the best football we've seen here at town in a long time but my god we had some cr*p aswell 😂

Evans' man used by Ashton then discarded so deserves some sympathy. Unfortunately to a lot of us he'll always be the man who threw our babies out with the bathwater

The future of old fashioned managers like Paul Cook is in the lower leagues now. Clubs in higher divisions will go for smart, young, stats-based managers like our new guy. I feel a bit sad for Cook and his like, but thats the way things are now.

That's about his level without a sack of cash or Richardson. Even first time around at chesterfield they were throwing money at it. I don't wish him bad luck, I just couldn't care less whether he does well or badly.

Too rigid with formation and ideas here and it didn't work. At some clubs, at sometimes, with some players that is a winning formula - so all the best Paul I hope you smash it!!

Funny how everyone thinks we are all a sudden a much better team under macca we have beaten the gills twice accrington wimbledon and a poor wycombe side, lost to 2 half decent teams .when cooky left we were 11 points behind the leaders now we are 18 , 8 points behind 6th spot and when cooky got the sack we were 7 so not sure how that adds up to everyones theory and we look more like a paul lambert team again now playing with no width in the final third loads of passing in triangles and moving the ball quickly but going no where with it,so i am yet to be convinced, and it is clear players like walton who is more fit and able now would have benefited cooky with more time, plus he is vastly more experienced than our current manager and knows how to get promotion ,but everyone seems to be impressed by stats atm so ...anyway rant over good luck cooky hope you smash it ! Ashton got his man and i will continue to back the manager but lets not kid ourselves its a whole lot better, we still miles off a play off bet imo.

happybeingblue - you are spot on bud and one of my reservations with McK is the way he's setting up, almost ala Lambert. We ain't going to win all the time, so for fans that actually attend its also about the entertainment and match day experience. Don't get me wrong here, I'm happy with McK and have been impressed but the juries out for a while til we see how the above mentioned pan out.
Like a posters said yesterday, football under Cook is the best we saw for years and I doubt any of the anti Cooks can challenge that.
