Town have called a 3pm press conference where Joe Royle will be named as the new manager. The former Manchester City man has looked favourite from the job since we first reported that he was talking to Town last Wednesday.

Thursday saw large amounts of money being bet on him becoming the new boss and it appears the deal was all but done before Saturday's protests from fans.

Royle met with the Town board yesterday to sign his contract and will be paraded in front of the press this afternoon.

The move is unlikely to impress the large number of supporters who expressed their dislike of the ex-Oldham manager during and after Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to Gillingham.
