Simpson Nets Twice as U23s Beat Swans to Hit Top of Table
Monday, 28th Feb 2022 15:09

Tyreece Simpson scored twice and Idris El Mizouni and Tawanda Chirewa once each as Town’s U23s beat Swansea 4-1 at Playford Road, their sixth win in a row, to move to the top of Professional Development League Two South.

El Mizouni, one of two senior players in the side along with Kane Vincent-Young, opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a deflected low drive with Chirewa adding the second - his 11th PDL2 South goal of the season - six minutes later when he profited from a mix-up in the Swans defence.

The Welshmen pulled on back on 42 but Simpson restored the Blues’ two-goal advantage seven minutes after the restart when he benefited from another defensive slip-up.

Simpson made it four in the 66th minute when he rounded the keeper before finding the net.

The victory sees Kieron Dyer’s side go ahead of Cardiff at the top of PDL2 South by a point but with the Bluebirds having played two fewer games. They host third-placed Bristol City tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Town's U18s drew 2-2 away against QPR on Saturday morning.

Town: Hayes, Stewart (Alexander 75), Baggott (c), Armin, Vincent-Young, El Mizouni, Humphreys, Smith, Chirewa, Hughes, Simpson (Curtis 83). Unused: White, Bello, Siziba.

This young man could be the real deal. An area we are lacking in as present, byt its very rare that you can rely wholly on a very young player with relatively little experience. Good luck to him and i would like to see him at least have a chance. The gaffa sees him and knows more than i so i trust his judgement.

Give him a go on Saturday. None of our first team strikers are in form so he cant do any worse.

The lad deserves at least a place on the bench on Saturday. Any 1 of our 4 strikers could make way for him on present form.

Just because a young player seems to score for fun in U23 football it doesn't mean that he will be able to do that in senior football. Charlie Brown scored for fun in Chelsea's U23s but has so far failed to leave his mark in senior football.

I know that TS has scored a few in L2 , but if the clubs management thought that he'd be able to reproduce that in L1, he probably would have at least been on the bench.

MattinLondon. I agree but none of our strikers are scoring at the moment so why not give him a chance but I doubt that he will be given that chance just yet !!

He won't sign a new contract.

Don't think he wants to stay, waiting for better offers!

difference with current strikers is that they want to be involved with ITFC Simpson doesn't so in my book forget firm etc if youvwantvaway them stay in U23s and let players whovwant to be part of ITFC play in the first team he doesn't deserve a place in the 18

This is such a poor standard and no way to Judge if a player is ready for the first team remember they were beaten by Stowmarket the other day. Im backing McKenna and his coaching staff in their judgement of players.

We must certainly place our complete trust in KM and Co who are doing an excellent job in totally restoring everything good about ITFC , alongside aspiring to bring progressive success along the road !
IF TS really doesn't share the vision and wants away ,then best he either reflects and readjusts his sights OR hits the road to play somewhere else ,and soon !
KM and his Management team will already have plans laid and prospects identified for next season ,and anyone wanting to be a part of the ITFC bandwagon will have to earn their place .

Simpson deserves a place on the bench - purely as he IS scoring goals

Hes a strong lad who can hold the ball up well and score a goal or 2. We'll never know if he's any good at lge 1 level unless we give him ago from the bench.

Recently, Liam Gibbs showed promise at academy level. Then felt he was entitled to greater things. Haven't seen or heard of him since moving to Norwich. Simpson did well at Swindon so I guess he's looking for a better offer, but if KM leaves him in U23, he will probably be like others, playing at a level that will impair his development and slowly fade away into obscurity. Shame if it does, but we've seen it all before.

TS has proved himself in senior football, albeit at L2 level. So in my book he is worth giving an opportunity to show if he can perform at L1 level - provided that he will have discussions about a future contract. If not, then leave him in the U23s.

Chuck him straight into the front line. Our other strikers seem to have forgotten where the net is. He did it one division down so should be able to do it in this division, hopefully.

Time to try him in first team I think ….

That is the way to get yourself into the 1st team. Well done Tyreece.

Well for me we do not know what is going on with his contract and we wont know if he is good enough for league unless we try him . What harm can it do as others have pointed out our strikers are hardly on fire . Suppose we just have to trust our new management team .

surely young players have to see a pathway into the first team if they perform well, the seniors are struggling to score atm so lets give him a chance he is under contract with us at the moment, next season is exactly that next season! miss the days of seeing the young lads given a chance off the bench what have we got to lose in our current situation. george burley would have had him in by now for sure.

Worry about the contract at the end of the season.just get him in now he nows where the net is unlike our current batch.

Letchworth_Blue added 18:37 - Feb 28
Happybeingblue agree entirely. A pathway must exist for those performing well below the first team to be promoted to it when first team players are not. Otherwise what is the point of a squad? What are we waiting for, the next transfer window??

Natural goal scorers are successful at all levels. If good enough give him a chance.
If I see anymore coverage of Bonne with his head in his hands I will scream

MattinLondon , agree, BUT equally he just may do, if he dosnt get the chance we will never know, our strikers at present are not scoring , so worth a gamble imo .
