Town Now Eight Points From Top Six
Tuesday, 5th Apr 2022 22:38

Town are eight points off the play-offs following Tuesday’s League One fixtures.

Of the sides above the Blues, Wycombe won 4-1 at Cambridge United and Oxford were beaten 2-1 at Morecambe.

Wigan and MK Dons climbed above Rotherham into the top two places following home victories over Accrington, 3-0, and Crewe, 2-1, respectively. Behind Town, Portsmouth drew 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers.

The ninth-placed Blues now having no chance of making the top six barring a remarkable series of results with only five games remaining.

Rotherham conceding 5 goals in 19 away matches is ridiculous.

There we go...Cambridge loses again to another play-off rival club (Wycombe) but beats us! you couldn't make it up.

Hope we thrash Cambridge next season as we send them to League Two. If they were going to beat us they could have done us a favour against Wycombe.

Cambridge Utd have treated the games against us as derby fixtures. Next season we need to treat it the same way also (for one season). 4 extra points now (the points dropped against Cambridge) could end up being critical.

Bad maths, 5 points dropped.

Realistically the season is over for us. KM has done well with the resources he has, over the closed season a few carefully selected enhancements should be what we need to be contenders next season. No point looking back at dropped points.

Impossible now to go up but five games to show character on the field and massive support off it. It will be an interesting challenge to see how the team responds on the pitch and the numbers stay high in the stands.

Dropped points against Morecambe and Cheltenham almost finished our season, Cambridge was the final nail in the coffin. It'll be interesting to see our lineup for the remaining games, it could provide more of an insight into KmK's thoughts for the future.

So so Ipswich, Cambridge play like world beaters against is. Then a few days later are well beaten by a team we have beaten twice this season

This night was the decisive one - and it shows up Saturday's abysmal performance.

KM has done a fantastic job since his appointment and there is plenty of optimism for next season. There are certain areas to improve on and I am sure KM will address this. 2 or 3 new strikers is a must for next season

I still think 79 points might just squeak 6th place, just don't think we'll get anywhere near 15 points.

We've missed out on the playoffs through the dismal managerial display of Paul Cook. Keiron McKenna you have been a breath of fresh air to lift our optimism for next season. Just a few tweaks to the squad next season, not wholesale changes and we'll hit the ground running next season.

Timmyh.really? For them Saturday was a local Derby qnd they upped their game against us. For them to go again just 3 days later was a lot to ask. Plus it's the nature of the lge that anyone can beat anyone on their day. But yea, disappointing. But did any of us really think it was gonna happen after cook left us in such a difficult position?

I know Karl Robinson didn't fancy playing us in the playoffs but looks like they aren't gonna be in the playoffs themselves. It would be a tragedy if Wycombe went up this year - they are the worst side in the top half of the league

When Evans appointed Cook, I thought we had a chance
I put the poor performance's down to the players attitude and really not being as good as we thought.

To Cook credit he had the balls to get rid of 26 players and brought in some good players in Walton,Burns,Edmunson,Morsy,Celina Chaplin and even Bonne was on fire.

It became apparent that he was not the man for the job and I feel if the take over had been a month earlier he would never have been the manager.

I don't blame him totally because so many changes was always going to take time to settle.

Losing to Cambridge is not the reason Town are not going up, too many dropped points from other games is also the reason.

We needed McKenna a month earlier so he could get a couple of players more in to give us the goals to beat teams.

Disappointed about this season but looking forward to next year as I feel we have a manager who will bring the best out of players, Woolfenden a prime example, hoping he will get the best out of Harper and Edwards and even Dobra

Lots to look forward too

Time for McK to try a back 4 give a couple of the youngsters a run of games

Is there a record we can claim for being in 9th place the longest!

Ipswichbusiness added 10:41 - Apr 6
We are where we are because we haven't been good enough over a season.

I am sure that we will be better next season as KM will have had a full pre-season with the players and made some signings (with luck he'll bring on some of our youngsters).

The only thing that pleases me about last night's results is the continuing drop of Oxford. After the disgusting way they played against us at PR with blatant time wasting and players rolling over as if shot as well as Karl Robinson's remarks last week this is karma.
Of the likely playoff contenders I would like to see Plymouth make it to the Championship. They have been top 6 virtually all season and appeared a good honest team when they played here recently. From a selfish point of view however it might be best to get rid of Sheffield Wed as they would probably be strong top 2 contenders next season as could the three likely newcomers relegated from the Championship

We have not beaten Cheltenham, Morecambe, Cambridge and Bolton.
Only 4 points won!
i expect most teams above us have gained plenty more!!

We are playing entertaining football which is the wish of our supporters. Getting all the points and scoring lots of goals against teams that are parking the bus and hanging on the ropes is the next phase. Can only take positives from the re-organisation and the progress its making. Perhaps the Football God decided it was too early to take on the championship teams in our current phase of development. Whoever goes up from the top six will traditionally come straight back down again as they are not set up businesswise for the championship! The killer has been the last second equaliser at Oxford and the results before it NOT losing the local derby?

TimmyH added 11:40 - Apr 6
blues1...so it's as simple as 'they upped their game' in a local derby (for them), if you look at their recent games V Sheff Wed (hammered), MK Dons, Wycombe (again, they obviously learnt little) and Oxford they haven't faired well - maybe a point about playing 3 days later.

Problem is even though we've improved under McK we've still dropped points against small budget sides...when this stops happening then maybe we've got a chance of getting in at least the play-offs.

I'm getting weary of supporters saying we're looking forward to next season. But here we go again. Money spent and yet not making headway. Saying that, thank goodness we now have a decent basis for a promotion push next year. New owners and a great young manager. I just hope we aren't saying the same phrase next year. COYB in McK we must believe.
