Red-Carded Burgess Issues Apology
Sunday, 10th Apr 2022 12:56

Blues centre-half Cameron Burgess has apologised for his red card in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury.

Burgess, 26, was dismissed in the 75th minute for a second bookable offence as he challenged home keeper Marko Marosi having picked up his earlier yellow card for pulling back Ryan Bowman just before the break.

The goalie and his defenders made a meal of it and with Morsy the whole time!

IF he'd not had a yellow already , if the Ref hadn't got into ‘control ‘ by issuing cards, this might well have been the verbal warning instance it looked on the video !
But footy is much about controversy ,and discussion and it's a real shame our man became wrapped into something a bit needless at that stage of the game .
Never mind ,put it to rest and move on ! COYB

Cam never even touched the keeper, you could tell that by the keepers reaction because if Cam had caught him he would have got hurt and he clearly wasn`t but of course there is always intent in this game. Having been a keeper over 50 years ago i would have just had a laugh with Cam. How times have changed (not for the better). Good pass by Thompson to that Whalley to score. Lol

He's gone in in a manner the referee has deemed to be dangerous.

He hasn't touched the keeper but these days that's potentially a straight red, never mind a yellow. A stupid, unnecessary, challenge that cost us two points.

Hopefully he learns from it!

It happens, it's football. Good on him to come out and apologise though.

He's gone in late, studs up at speed. If the goalie doesn't jump Burgess breaks the keepers leg and it's a straight red.

In the modern game, its dangerous play. Doesn't matter about the intent or if he makes contact or not (although the fact he didn't make contact saved him a straight red).

Hopefully he learns from this and credit to him for issuing an apology. However all he's done here is play himself straight back onto the bench when Fridge is fit.

I think it was worthy of a straight red. Dangerous, unnecessary and cost us two points in all probability. He should be ashamed.

In the pathetic modern version of the game it matters not if you make contact. Its a 'brain dead' lunge. Having said that the first yellow is a pathetic decision. Once on a yellow though you've gotta be fairly stupid to jump in when the best you can do is block it out for a goal kick, especially when leading 1-0 and in control of the points. No doubt the numpty brigade would label this challenge as showing 'passion' ?!!

It was a studs up challenge that could have been dangerous.

Good on him for apologising but I'm disappointed that he can't spell it.

Well at least we will all get the chance to see Elkan play in his place now.

I was there yesterday and even from the other end of the ground it looked reckless. It was more than just two footed with studs showing - it was at speed. It was at least a second yellow and many refs could have given a straight red. No complaints from me.

No arguments from me, the first yellow was soft in the extreme but we have to live it.
Cam's been very very fortunate, the playoffs are gone anyway, but ask yourself how costly this would have been in a play off semi final or final!!

Most of life's lessons are learned with **** ups, we now need to make sure the whole team learn a hard lesson on those points dropped, and make sure we never put ourselves in that position again!

Not even sure why a defender would be challenging their goal keeper should have been our forwards doing that. I know McKenna want players to push up together but that's taking things a bit far. At least it give Mckenna a chance to see the youngsters and see what they can offer next season. Time for some players to stand up and make their mark for a new contract or be shipped out.

At the risk of upsetting everybody thought the ref got it right and for way refs was one of the better ones we have had this season.

Yes Robert Garrett and Morsy usually manages to deal with it and for me he is just about the only leader in this Ipswich side . Yes Razor it was Burgess's error not the Ref. who had a good game . If possible we need to sign a couple more leaders to get us out of this league or we can only look forward to another mid table finish next season . I am also worried about us fans giving a standing ovation almost weekly is it acceptance for mediocrity ?

Shame because he's been playing well of late. But i do think he's got a touch of the Toto's about him in that he's a bit clumsy at times and a little uncoordinated . Would i have him next season definitely yes a good player to have in the squad. I think in the championship he would struggle big time because of his lack of mobility and pace.

No bearing on our season. Just got to look forward to next season again with KM at the wheel

I was at the game and I flinched when I saw the challenge. I couldn't believe it when the ref pulled out the yellow card as I thought it was straight red. I wasn't sure who it was at the time as it was at the other end of the ground. It definitely changed the game as Shrewsbury were shocking up to that point. They were marginally better than Fleetwood but that's only because Fleetwood don't have any players.

My god. Some of the comments on here are laughable. Yes, it was a daft challenge to nake when on a yellow card. But anyone would think he's the only player in the world to have done so. Last week everyone's saying how well he's playing. Now all of a sudden he's clumsy, or got toto in him. Neither of which is true.
Ringwoodblue. What are you on about? He can't spell it? He didn't write the story did he? He just gave the interview.

blues1 - look at his tweet above! 2 errors in 3 games...but before that he had been doing okay.

blues1 Completely agree. Feeling like he needs to apologise on social media for being sent off? Really? Should be ashamed of himself? Do me a favour. Yeh, sure, we all make mistakes and he said he was a daft tackle to make - and probably got a bit of stick from his team mates and the boss. But come on, the bloke has been outstanding since he has come back into the team. Move on.

Burgess for me has done pretty well. He's a decent backup player but fully agree he couldn't play Championship football. I believe Ndaba and Baggot will jump ahead of him for next season but he's still decent in this league. It was a reckless challenge and an unnecessary one but he'll learn from that.
It'll be good to see where Baggott is at with his development against a tough Rotherham side who are having a confidence wobble.

It's a shame we couldn't recall Ndaba from his loan at Salford as he's proved himself by playing well at a decent level. Baggott hasn't done anything at decent level and next season i expect him to be out on loan. But like a lot of our younger players Dobra, Morris, Mcgavin, Lankester etc people get far too carried away.
