Burns Named in League One Team of the Season
Sunday, 24th Apr 2022 23:04

Blues wing-back Wes Burns has been named in the Sky Bet League One Team of the Season for 2021/22.

The Welshman, who was Town’s first signing of 19 last summer when he was recruited from Fleetwood, was picked in the select XI at this evening's EFL Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane.

Burns, 27, has made 35 starts and four sub appearances during the campaign, scoring 11 times and becoming a fans' favourite.

“I’m delighted to be named in the League One Team of the Season,” Burns told the club site.

“Although it won’t end in the way we would’ve liked it to have done, I’ve loved my first year at the club and I’m very grateful to be recognised in this way.

“I’m already looking forward to building on this season both individually and as a squad to make sure that next year is a successful one for the club.”

Meanwhile, Bersant Celina missed out on the Goal of the Season award for his brilliant chip at home to Crewe with Sheffield Wednesday's Barry Bannan named the winner for his strike against MK Dons.

Great stuff, love seeing Burns hustling up and down the pitch. Reminds me of gallagher at crystal palace

Congratulations Wes,well deserved. Its almost certain you will follow it up with a second award, by being named our player of the year.
We just need to find someone as good as you for that elusive left wing back slot, along with 2 quality brutes up front, what a side we could be then.

ChrisR.........Nice idea, but I think those 3 you mentioned would cost around 10 million between them, unlikely our nice American owners would stump that up.(Not that their respective clubs would sell them anyway 😉)

I think that Burgess was in the previous seasons team of the year and he has been a quality signing for us. I expect our scouting department will know which of this years winners might be out of contract or otherwise available.

Bannon's goal better than Celina's? Really? There were far better goals in that list than Bannon's. All he did was lob the keeper who was off his line.

For a wing back the number of goals from Wes Burns is remarkable plus his assists. Well done and thank you for bringing excitement back to match days. Walton could easily have got top spot too.
Why Celina's goal was not goal of the season remains a mystery.

Scores goals and also works hard for the team doing his fare share of defensive work. A player with a good all round game which is rare these days.

I think he should thank Donacien as he does so much covering for him and also supports with overlapping runs nothing on the left side like that so alot of his good stuff is also down to Donacien

Agreed that Wes/Don has been great. Just wish that Don would try to shoot, I'm sure he could score.
Now KM needs to sort out left.
With better strikers Wes would have even more assists!
