Portman Road Infrastructure Work Under Way
Thursday, 28th Apr 2022 12:30

Town have begun work on the infrastructure changes which will be completed at Portman Road over the summer.

The scoreboard in the corner between the Cobbold Stand and Sir Alf Ramsey Stand has been removed.

Once planning permission has been confirmed, that corner of the stadium will be removed to facilitate improved access for the summer works. A big screen is set to be installed in that area.

Work on installing a new PA also got under way a week ago and will be completed in time for 2022/23, which starts on Saturday 30th July.

New dugouts are another element of the work being undertaken during the close season.

Town initially planned major renovations to the pitch this summer but that will now take place in a year’s time.

Work on improving Playford Road’s facilities is also set to take place during the close season.

Great news : the PA system has never been adequate and was acknowledged as such decades ago ! Other improvements and changes are without doubt long overdue and it's good to see how quickly the new owners have recognised the potential and now set about providing change !
ITFC looks like becoming again a real home and Club to be proud of in every respect .

There's a lot more going to happen over the summer too, new ground entry electronic system is coming and no doubt the concourses and bars will be tarted up to reflect the in-house catering. Suspect Mr Ashton has some great things he wants us to enjoy come july.....

Pre-season in the States. Can you let us know early Mr Ashton so we can book flights and accommodation (if only).

Replacing all the hand dryers in the loos is way over due. Can only speak for The Sir Alf, but they either only work for about 5 seconds, blow out cold air or take an age to dry your hands.

Also some of the water supplies for tea and coffee etc need looking at. There is often a distinct taste of chlorine in some of the units.

Maybe only minor tweaks but still bloody annoying!

Paddy39. Dont bother saving up for the USA in preseason. They're not leaving the UK this year. Even if they had of done, it would have been to go to Austria, not the USA. As that's where Mckenna wanted to go. But bcse of the covid situation still an issue, they decided against it.

I can't imagine the new owners would be making these improvements if they weren't in it for at least the medium term or even the long term. So all good news.

I look forward to seeing the new beer offering, anything would be an improvement on the current rubbish.
The Aspell Cider is good, if they would chill it enough.

Would also be nice to have TV's that actually show up to date latest scores at half time/full time and a replay of goals scored at Portman Road on the day.Not old games shown every week.(That's what we get in the Coop/West stand anywhere 🙄)
