Morsy Linked With Wigan But No Contact With Town
Sunday, 15th May 2022 09:41

Blues skipper Sam Morsy is reportedly a summer target of his old side Wigan Athletic but we understand Town have received no approach regarding the 30-year-old.

According to the Sun on Sunday’s Alan Nixon, the Latics are interested in bringing their former captain Morsy back to the DW Stadium following their promotion to the Championship.

It’s said that Town could sell if the right offer comes in and if the player is keen.

TWTD understands that the Blues have received no contact from the Latics regarding the Egypt international, who signed a three-year deal when he was recruited from Middlesbrough last summer.

Wigan are managed by Leam Richardson, who was Paul Cook’s assistant during his successful spell with the Lancastrians in which Morsy was part of the team which carried off the 2017/18 League One title.

Morsy has been a key man in the Town side since Kieran McKenna took charge in mid-December and it's unlikely that the Blues would be willing to allow him to move on this summer.

BIG mistake if we let him go . That's it in a nutshell!

Alan Nixon is very unreliable, so wouldn't read too much into this.

Arnie M. He works for the Sun. Needn't say anymore about his reliability. Or should I say, lack of it.

Club captain, fans fave and on a long contract and decent money. Why on earth would Sam even consider it let alone want to go?

Bazza8564. Whyd he want to go? Championship football, higher wages? Just 2 reasons.
If he was to go, we should go for Panutche Camara from Plymouth. He's available for transfer, qnd a good player. Scores goals from midfield too. Should go for him anyway imo mind you. Hopefully morsy will stay however, tho would understand if he wanted to go. And if the price is right, then I'm sure the club would have to consider it.

S M will have carefully considered all and every angle ,with a number around him willing and able to ‘advise ‘ , when he first signed for ITFC .Can't think he's not enjoyed being with us in Suffolk ,nor is unappreciative of the patent positivity surrounding every aspect of ITFC right now - and does he have family to consider uprooting again ?
Equally ,though KM is objective and hardened to football opportunists, it's very hard to believe he would willingly agree to lose his Skipper who has been a real success .
Let us see. ; it's rumour time !!

According to his Wikipedia page, he signed last summer on a three year deal so we are under no pressure to sell.

Ipswichbusiness. No, no pressure to sell but if the price is right, or he was to tell the club he wants to go, then that contract will likely mean little. Would be surprised if he goes, but would be no point keeping him if he didn't want to stay.

Every player has a price, let's wait and see what develops before we get to airyated. Because we have owners with cash no doubt there will be many rumours, paper talk is cheap.

Just summer speculation by sports journalists low on stories I'd imagined, looking for connections in order to add some apparent credibility to the report.
Having said all that, we should not be naive enough to think Morsy would rather stay with us than have to chance to play at a higher level again; he is clearly a Championship level player who is 30 now & seeing his chance of ever playing in the Premier League lessen every year. We once again believe that next season will be the one for us to get back up & in McKenna we have the chance to go up again soon after that; but there's no guarantee of that or of us keeping McKenna if a bigger club comes for him. Wigan are up now, have money, and the player knows the club & the manager. It's not impossible.
We have to be realistic that every player has his price & at our level, we have to sell as well as buy, even though we have money. He'd be a huge loss & very hard to replace if he was to leave.

If it happens it will because of our inability to get promoted, all our top players will be looked at,,

Won't Happen
Unless a ridiculous bid
Even with championship money poor crowds compared to Town I could understand if a club like Sunderland got promoted with over 30 thousand every week
Like going back to ex wife better where he is

Hopefully newspaper talk but can see there could be something in this.

I can only see us considering such a move if the offer made was too good to pass and/or if Morsey made it clear he wanted to go. If Morsey wanted the move then, contract or not, we would probably let him as having an unsettled player isn't to anyones benefit.

He signed a three year contract and I can't see Ashton rolling over in any negotiations so if we do sell we should get a decent fee.

Loyalty isn't a quality connected to footballers. I can't imagine that his decision will be swayed by the fact that we get bigger crowds either. If they offer him similar money I'm sure he'll be gone in a flash. What goes in our favour is the source of the story-a rag that I wouldn't clean dog sh*t off my shoes with. Personally....hope he stays.

blues1 added 13:56 - May 15
Chepstowblue. Not sure why you thibk they'd offer him similar money to us? Unless ur one of those who thinks he's on £15,000 a week here? Taking into account when walton signed in January it was was well publicised that he became our top earner on around £6,500 a week, he's on nowhere near that. So whatever wigan would be offering in the championship would be well above what he's on here.

Sam Morsy is our engine room. From the very first game he played for us, he transformed us. We haven't had such a commanding central midfielder since Matty Holland. I can't for the life of me see MA and GC20 being willing to let Sam go, it would need to be an absolutely huge offer from Wigan to break that contract. 99% sure that Sam will be our captain next season in front of sellout crowds and taking League 1 by the scruff of the neck. COYBs.

Even I could have come up with this link, true or not. It is football, but the good news is we now have owners and MA running the show, and if ANYONE leaves, including our Captain, it will be on our terms, more than ever before. Players will come and go but we will keep moving forward, and personally I don't think Morsy leaves for a relegation battle at Wigan !
