West Ham and Arsenal Eyeing Chirewa
Monday, 23rd May 2022 15:03

West Ham United and Arsenal are eyeing promising Town youngster Tawanda Chirewa, TWTD understands.

Chirewa, 18, was one of the top performers for the U23s during 2021/22, scoring 12 times as the side coached by Kieron Dyer and then John McGreal topped Professional Development League Two South.

The Shenfield-raised forward was due to be out of contract this summer but the Blues recently took an option to keep him for a further season and are keen to keep him at Portman Road longer term.

However, we understand his performances for the U23s have attracted the attention of the Gunners and Hammers among others keen to recruit him into their development squads.

Chirewa, who qualifies to play international football for Zimbabwe, became Town’s second-youngest first-team player when he made his debut in the EFL Trophy tie at Colchester in November 2019 aged 16 years and 31 days old.

i am sure someone can tell me, when was the last time a youngster left us prematurely and went on to have a great career? As for youngsters having their heads turned by money, young Elkan sounds appreciative and loyal!

Comparing us with Norwich on here is ridiculous the huge difference is that the players they sell on whether kids or not are proving it at the very top of the championship REGULARLY or proving it in the premier league hence they can command much more significant fees as proven at that level whereas none of our players have. The other difference from now is I don't think Ashton is a pushover remember he's the guy that stole Adam Webster from us for 3.5 million to sell him a year later for 20 plus.

The FA is doing literally nothing to protect the integrity of the football league. How the likes of Man City and Chelsea are allowed to just bring in every youngster they can get their hands on, then loan out some 30 players to lower league teams is just incredibly unjust. Why are there no limits imposed on these clubs doing things like this?

We all know the answer is money. The FA have no backbone, clearly as crooked as FIFA.

No Surprise there to be honest … will be difficult to hang onto him in fairness, he needs to be at a more than a Division 3 Club now to progress.
He is an exceptional talent, with great potential.
