McKenna Looking Forward to Working With Proven Goalscorer Ladapo
Tuesday, 31st May 2022 14:11

Town boss Kieran McKenna says he’s really looking forward to working with “proven goalscorer” Freddie Ladapo, who is joining on a three-year deal at the end of his Rotherham contract.

The 29-year-old free agent is McKenna’s first senior signing since he took over in December last year.

“Freddie is a proven goalscorer and will bring certain qualities to the group,” McKenna told the club site.

“He knows where the back of the net is and we're delighted to have him on board. He wants to be a part of our project here. He has certainly bought into the project.

“He's a bubbly and outgoing character and he will fit in well. We need personalities and experience like he has.

“He will bring his own ways of doing things to the group and it should be a good mix. I'm really looking forward to working with him.”

Romford-born Ladapo scored 41 goals in 78 starts and 45 sub appearances in his three seasons with the Millers, 17 in his first in League One, nine in the Championship the following year and 15 in League One last season.

Bit strange that stat of 41 goals in 78 starts...if so he hasn't scored 1 goal as a substitute in 45 sub appearances so he must start :)...also less effective in the Championship with 9 from 42.

Timmyh. It says he scored 41 goals in 78 starts and 45 sub apperarances. Not that all his goals were in his starts. And where do u get 42 appearances in the championship? Story only states he made 123 appearances inv3 yeqrs

Pretty sure KM and Co know just a bit about what qualities they're looking for ,and the character they need to bring into the side . That being the case optimism and positivity ought to dominate our thoughts and approach – so Come on you lot ,be happy ,stop being hesitant / negative !

Know its just another opinion but Paul Anderson, who should know a bit, reckons its a great signing for us. Think I'll trust a former professional player more than the views of some fans. End of the day tho, Mckenna thinks hes good enough. And thats good enough for me. As some say tho, we will likely need another striker to come in.

Okay maybe misread that a bit but 41 goals in near 125 appearances for a team at the top of league one in 2 of the 3 seasons is consistent but nothing more...he played 42 league games for Rotherham in 2020/21 season (Championship) and scored 9 goals and no assists so pretty average there...wiki states so must be true. :)

To get the best out of him could do with nicking Barlaser and Wiles from Rotherham too...

These muppets who slate Freddie Sears need to take a long hard look at themselves. Played massively out of position for the majority of his five years with the club and always played with effort, totally embarrassing 🤦‍♂️

Whatever his goal stats having seen him play only twice he is a real pest to defenders and works his socks off and will create chances for others,
A very warm welcome Freddie!

Solid double figures each league one season for Roth.
Cracking campaign for Plymouth with 19 goals too.
Also for any giving stick over 9 goals in the championship....Leon Best....Noel Hunt....and on. Strikers we've had in that league who never looked like getting that many.

So many of the posters on here hate the facts that spoil their narrative but his goal per minute ratio for last season roughly equivalent to Norwood.

Wooly74 . There's always been a big misconception that Sears was played out of position, but tgsts not strictly true. He began his career at West ham playing on the wing. So is a position he totally familiar with. Only really at col utd that he was played entirely as a striker. Probably fair to say he's more effective there, but tbh, after his injury he was never the same player. And why you've brought up Sears on this story I really dont know?

Have no doubts this is an upgrade on Norwood. Free transfer and probably on less wages given we offered more to Norwood than Charlton could even though they were championship at the time.

With reference to Freddie's goal ratio for Rotherham of 41 from 78 Starts + 45 sub appearances.

We obviously do not know how many minutes on the pitch Freddie's sub appearances were...but interesting to reference the median average substitution in the Football League is the 64th minute....so a sub would play around 32% of a full match.

If Freddie was in line with this "average" of a sub playing around 1/3rd of a full game...then it would imply that his 45 sub appearances are the equivalent of 15 Full Games. He made 78 starts...so an equivalent of 93 "full games". On that basis, his 41 goals are much closer to the GOLD STANDARD for top strikers of a goal every other game...especially if one considered that his 78 starts were not necessarily "full games" as he will sometimes have been subbed.
