Life's a Pitch is Back
Monday, 13th Jun 2022 07:30

BBC Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch is to return ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Life’s a Pitch was halted during the pandemic and has been missing from the schedules for the last two seasons.

However, the show will return on July 9th with host Mark Murphy joined by legend-in-residence Terry Butcher, TWTD’s Phil Ham and Tractor Boy.

Murphy will be moving to weekend shows this summer with Life’s a Pitch, which will be back in its usual 12-2pm slot, part of a new four-hour Saturday programme, The Show of Two Halves.

“I’ll be finishing the breakfast show on 24th June,” Murphy explained. “The 3.30 alarm calls have taken their toll but I’m super-excited to be hosting two new big weekend shows.

“The Saturday show will include the return of the much-missed Life’s a Pitch, which will see the whole gang return, Terry Butcher, Phil Ham, a now very tall Tractor Boy and even Captain Canary. We’ll have some big name ITFC guests dropping by each week.”

Ham added: “I'm looking forward to spending my Saturday lunchtimes with Mark, Terry and Tractor Boy once again, hopefully during a season to remember. You never know, I might finally even get my own jingle.”

Life’s a Pitch began in August 2011 with Kevin Beattie the show’s original legend-in-residence joining Ham, Murphy and a wide variety of Town-related guests, from Blues stars of the past and present, club staff and supporters from all over the globe.

So pleased to hear this will be returning. I have some great memories from this show, especially having my photo taken with 'the beat'. Much treasured x

Brilliant, part of the match day build up listening to Murph Butch and Phil on our 50 mile journey to Portman Road.

Great news - much missed, but now another step towards ‘reassuringly normal'!

Interesting will be the club's approach to the show's return. Hopefully will see it as a great opportunity to connect and communicate meaningfully with supporters. Rather than, under previous regimes, viewing it with a degree of suspicion, with stilted and ‘say nothing much' interviews! COYB!

Great to know that it's returning as I used to listen every week. No idea why Radio Suffolk dropped it in the first place as it was so popular. Maybe Phil is taking a pay cut to let it come back ;)

Monkey Blue: you can listen to it live on the BBC Sounds app. You can also listen on the app to the build up to the match from 2pm, and Final Whistle from 5pm, but not to the match itself (without subscribing through I-Follow). I listen to Final Whistle on the way home on the train after home games.

Can't say it interests me personally, the BBC's coverage of us is terrible and bias towards that lot up the road

Give it a shot, Wooly, you might just love it.

Indeed, me, Mark and Terry Butcher are well-known for our Canary sympathies.

Glad to see it's back. No show like it back at home in Derbyshire. Radio Derby just have the show with the commentary. Enjoy listening on the way to PR. Helps the journey pass once you get to Cambridge

Lets start the new season of with a major transfer to bring the town better chances to win games, transfer Alex Mathie to Norwich, my wife is fed up of me saying, "well thats another game lost", when ever his name came up as second commentator at our games last seaon, hes a jinx I'm afraid, good player but bad omen. !!!!!

I do love how my obvious comments can attract negativity from others. I'm expressing a personal opinion and I'm sort of it doesn't meet everyone's approval. The very obvious left wing BBC needs to look at its general coverage is all I'm saying on football in this part of the World, especially if it wants more Town fans to tune in as we head to PR on a Saturday.

Thank you Wooly,
I had not thought of Life's a Pitch as crypto-Maxrxist sleeper cell run by the BBC to promolgate theories of class war and politicise the masses.
Now the blinkers are removed I shall only listen with my fingers in my ears.
