Umbro Confirmed as New Kit Supplier
Tuesday, 14th Jun 2022 10:47

Town have confirmed that Umbro will be their kit suppliers for the next four years.

The news that adidas would be ending their association with the club - their most recent stint supplying Blues kit goes back to 2014 - with Umbro taking over had been widely rumoured for a number of months.

Town’s head of retail operations Paul Macro told the club site: “We are delighted to partner with Umbro for the upcoming season and beyond.

“Umbro has excellent credentials having created high-quality kits for clubs all around the world. We are looking forward to showing our fans the eye-catching, bespoke design Umbro has produced for the club.

“We have high ambitions as a club, and we know that Umbro will be the perfect partner to support us in pursuit of our goals.”

Jonathan McCourt, head of sports marketing — UK football, Umbro, added: “We’re so excited that Ipswich Town will be wearing the famous double-diamond once again.

“There is so much shared history between Umbro and Ipswich. We are hoping that many more happy memories will be created as we join forces once again.

“We’re looking forward to sharing the club’s home and away kits with fans in due course, and we can’t wait to see them donning the jerseys in a packed-out Portman Road next season.”

Umbro, founded in Wilmslow, Cheshire in 1924 and now based in Manchester, previously made Blues strips for most of the 1970s and then from 1989 to 1995, including those worn in the 1991/92 Second Division championship season and the three subsequent Premier League campaigns. They will be the main kit supplier for Town Women as well as the men’s sides.

The new bespoke kit designs are set to be announced on Thursday at 10.30am, while the Blues have produced a video featuring Town-supporting boxer Fabio Wardley to launch their partnership with Umbro.

Umbro supply strips to national teams including the Republic of Ireland and Jamaica, as well as clubs including West Ham, Brentford, AFC Bournemouth, Burnley, Derby, Huddersfield, Hull City and Shrewsbury.

Rimsy. From what I've been told, the away kit is red and black. And there is no pic of the away shirt yet. Unless uve seen something elsewhere? Dont know where u saw that. The pic above at the end of video is the home shirt.

Will be disappointed if it's a black away kit. Had hopes of the red and black stripes returning. Would be nice if we had a third kit again.

Get the blue right. None of the light-blue nonsense that always leads to relegation. The 2001/02 and 2018/19 kits were the worst kits we've ever had–and it was clear they were awful even before the teams were awful. I really think it matters: players find it harder to play when they don't have a proper shirt to fight for.

@Powrigan

Umbro is headquartered in Manchester so yes, it is an English company. Is Apple not an American company because their phones are made in China?

Blues1. I was just commenting on the monochrome image at the start of this piece, thought maybe a nod to the away strip. Hope you're right though, I like the red/black kits.

@Tarrico

Apple isn't a subsidiary. Having an office in England doesn't stop it from being cheap tat.

Prefer adidas but that's possibly purely sentimental. Hopefully they'll produce some nice kits. 🤷‍♂️

Smart Financial decision from the club! No doubt in my mind more money will be coming the club's way per shirt sale with Umbro than it was with Adidas! Let's hope they come up with a great design. Uppa Towen!

The economics here are important, but as much as i try to be positive, Adidas is a brand that we enjoy wearing, how many people do you see out and about in Umbro trainers?
If it isn't a cool brand, i'm struggling to get my head around how we will match up with the training kit and tracksuit type sales….sorry

Would luv to see a kit based on the league winning team of 1961/62 . The hooped socks really stand out. But im just a sentimental old fart who dreams of the wonderful days when we won trophies.

Hey I know I am going back here but anybody favour plain white socks I do----think we won the league title in them.
