Town Reveal New Kits
Thursday, 16th Jun 2022 09:37

Town have unveiled their Umbro home and away kits for the 2022/23 season.

The home strip, modelled above by local boxer and Blues fan Fabio Wardley, echoes the 1991/92 Second Division title-winning kit - the last in which Town won a league title - with the larger red around the neck and white ends to the sleeves perhaps a nod to the shirt from the following two Premier League seasons.

The shirt bears sponsor Ed Sheeran's tour logo, as does the change strip, while the three stars in tribute to the 1961/62 First Division title, 1978 FA Cup win and 1981 UEFA Cup triumph move to the back below the collar.

The away kit harks back to the popular yet not made available at the time third strip from the early nineties. The Blues initially wore a red and black striped AC Milan shirt as their third strip in the early 1980s.

Revealing the strips, the club site said: “The blue home jersey features a distorted linear graphic, inspired by the architectural lines and structure of the Cobbold Stand at Portman Road.

“Knitted white pique shorts and blue socks with white part hoop complete the kit that the Blues will don for the new campaign.

“The away jersey pays homage to two iconic Town strips — the 1992/93 third kit and the 1993/94 away kit. Both were supplied by Umbro and worn by Town in the Premier League. The red and black shirt features a graphic front, back body stripe and raglan sleeves.

“Town Women, who currently compete in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division, will also be wearing Umbro’s new design as they vie for promotion in 2022/23.

“Using extensive experience, advanced technology, and a pioneering approach, Umbro has created a kit that gives Town players the chance to perform at their best on the pitch, while also ensuring fans can enjoy wearing a replica as they support the Blues from the stands.”

Town’s head of retail operations Paul Macro said: “It has been great working in partnership with Umbro to deliver two fully bespoke and unique kits.

“Every design or detail that features in the home or away kit has a story behind it. We’re so pleased to finally show them to supporters.

“As well as the home and away product that is currently on pre-order, we’ll also be offering home mini kits from three-six months upwards, away mini kits from two-three years upwards and we will be trialling ladies fit shirts in both the home and away designs. These should all be available on the general sale dates.”

Jonathan McCourt, head of sports marketing at UK Football Umbro, added: “We’re proud to share Ipswich Town’s home and away kits for the new season.

“This season’s home kit has a modern feel while still capturing the essence of Ipswich Town Football Club. The away jersey has the hallmarks of the club’s famous kits from both 1992/93 and 1993/94.

“It’s been great to rejoin forces with a club that we share so much history with. We cannot wait to see players and fans alike donning the famous double-diamond once again.”

The new kits, the first produced by new supplier Umbro, are available for pre-order online here.

Cannot understand the excitement myself - lots do and seem happy to be exploited by a marketing ploy. Feel sorry for all those parents / kids in a time of economic tough times who feel obliged/pressured into forking out for an expensive new strip every year. I would be just as happy if they turned out in plain blue teeshirts from Primark. If you want to change/exploit a new design every year - at least give a strip away with every season ticket sold.

Well its a blue shirt after all for home fixtures, as always knew it would be. Good.
Was mightily confused with the colouring of the away shirt. It looked orange and black looking at the initial pics put up. Others show it as red and black- which is better. I hope the white away shirt is still in the locker for certain fixtures. Wish we could have stuck with a version of that as 1st away choice....

Each to their own (and if it gets promoted it will be the best kit ever) however that's £50 -£100 saved as I won't be buying either of them. They are not for me! I shall look out of date in last season's shirt instead. (or my Tie Die Greene King kit from the 90's)

At least 24 separate threads on the Forum about the new kits, can't see why they don't add to existing threads, lot of their threads have got single figure replies anyway. Must be an ego trip to have your own thread. Bonkers and it makes the forum not user friendly.

loving the retro look kits , adidas have been lazy with their designs for years all blue shirts like ours chelski leicester look exactly the same apart from the badge..few label snobs on here with some of the replies..lets be honest adidas are not the brand they once were anyone who has purchased gazelles in recent years will know how poor the quality and fit are most of the trainers are made out of foam these days and people pay £100 for the badge.

Love the designs. Just slightly concerned if walking past self-service tills wearing the away kit.

Why do some fans mention moaning and being negative, isn't this forum about opinions? Especially when it comes to a new kit!

For the record, I'm not a fan of the home kit, don't like the messy background, but it is what it is. Doesn't mean I support the team any less.

Probably not a popular opinion but I am glad we have moved the 3 stars from above the badge. Only underlines our obsession with past glories for me rather than looking forward and vast majority of fans from other clubs don't know what they signify anyway.

Really disappointing for me. Will not buy either. I thought last year's kit was the best one in a long time and my first home kit purchase in a while.....i love it. Clothing style and design preferences are of course personal, but i'm disappointed with both those kits. As many have said though, they could be wearing bin bags as long as they smash the league next year !

Quite liking the “retro” 90s look of this..think it's one of those that will grow on people.

My only gripe is the p1ss poor photography used to launch it - next time a full length front & back - in broad daylight please.

Yes agree the photos are poor. I think the away shirt is superb and shows a lot more invention than what you would get from Adidas i like the fact that the stripes are also on the back of the shirt. My second team is Wolves who are also sponsored by Adidas. Their shirt of two seasons ago is identical in design to ours apart from the colour of course. Adidas only bring out one or two designs a season and this covers all of their client's. With umbro you will get a more individual design. I think i would give the home shirt a seven out of ten and the away shirt a nine out of ten. All in all very satisfied.
