Photos: Squad Return For Pre-Season Training
Monday, 20th Jun 2022 18:35

Town’s squad was back at Playford Road for the first day of pre-season training earlier today.

New additions Freddie Ladapo and Dom Ball joined their new team-mates for testing before manager Kieran McKenna and his staff put them through their paces.

The Blues’ third addition Greg Leigh, whose signing was confirmed this evening, will take part tomorrow.

Lee Evans and Kyle Edwards, who were injured towards the end of last season, were also pictured, as were Rekeem Harper and Corrie Ndaba, who had been on loan last season, and last season’s U23s regulars Cameron Humphreys, Tawanda Chirewa, Tommy Hughes and Albie Armin.

Wes Burns and Elkan Baggott, who were on international duty with Wales and Indonesia until last week, have been given additional time off.

The Town squad will play their first friendly of their summer programme at Needham Market on Saturday afternoon before they spend a week training at Loughborough University.

Luv looking at these pre season photos. I really enjoyed pre season training although most people dreaded it. Unfortunately i suffered a bad ankle injury in my early twenties and was never the same and drifted down the leagues. I find players who don't take training seriously don't perform on the pitch.

I'm just being nosey but how good a footballer were you prior to injury? What standard could you have reached?

First day back was always hard. Fitness tests comprised a long run to see who had abused their bodies in the summer break. I always kept myself fit to make up for my lack of ability so I really enjoyed getting back to training. Remember when there was a two week factory shut down in every area? Training started after that. There was always at least one packing a few pounds. A few would throw up, to great cheers. All the lads in these photos look lean and fit and happy to be back.

I think McKenna will conduct a very good pre-season. Paul Cook was your typical dinosaur who expects players to run until they're sick. McKenna clearly likes to balance the hard running alongside more enjoyable footballing sessions which I'm sure the players will appreciate.

MattinLondon thanks for asking nothing special probably Thurlow Nunn league. I was a apprentice engineer at the time and i just couldn't afford any more time off work so i had to make a decision . I played in the old Mercia league which consisted of Ipswich, Norwich, Colchester, Cambridge United, Bury Town, Clacton Town and Harwich and Parkstone and got to play at some nice grounds. After that every thing seemed a bit of an anti climax. Stepping up to the adult game is a bit of an culture shock as some Ipswich youngsters have found.
