Town Sign John-Jules on Loan
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2022 18:06

Town have signed Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules on loan for the 2022/23 season.

“I’m excited to get started,” the 21-year-old told iFollow Ipswich. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while but I’m sure I’ve made the right decision.

“I had a meeting with the manager [Kieran McKenna] and people around me, and they had nothing but positive things to say about the club.

“I want to help the team as much possible, and contribute with as many goals and assists as I can. Hopefully, by doing that, I’ll help the team get back to where they need to be.”

Blues boss McKenna added: “There’s a lot to admire in Tyreece’s game. He’s someone I’ve known and followed throughout his youth career at Arsenal and in the England set-up.

“He’s a really talented and versatile forward who can play in a number of different positions. He has a really high technical level and can play off of both feet.

“If he can get a consistent run of form, then he is an extremely talented player with very high potential. We’re very excited to have him on board.”

John-Jules, who has been with the Gunners since joining them aged eight from Charlton, has previously had spells on loan with Lincoln, Doncaster, and last season with Blackpool and then Sheffield Wednesday.

While with the Owls from January he made only one sub appearance, coincidentally against the Blues at Hillsborough, after suffering a quad injury, having made nine starts and played three games from the bench for the Tangerines, both without scoring.

In 2020/21 while with Rovers he netted five times in 15 starts and six sub appearances.

The season before with the Imps John-Jules scored once in seven starts having signed in the January of the Covid-curtailed campaign.

Born in Westminster, John-Jules has been capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels and is the nephew of actor Danny John-Jules.

The striker is yet to make a competitive senior appearance for his parent club but has regularly trained with their first team squad and scored in a friendly against Al-Nasr Dubai SC in March 2019.

John-Jules is Town's fourth signing of pre-season and the second frontman following the recruitment of free agent Freddie Ladapo following his Rotherham release.

The Blues will find out their League One opponents tomorrow morning when the fixtures are announced with the Papa John's Trophy and Carabao Cup draws later in the day.

Rimgwoodblue. Yer, ir right. That's the exact kind of player mckenna said at the last fans forum, that he's looking to sign. Strong, athletic players. We've been too small a a team for far too long. While I wouldn't expect him to necessarily be a starter every week , he fits that profile.

Definitely looks as though this is a well considered move ; little doubt KM and Co will know his intelligence quota , technical potential AND have picked up on his physicality and adaptability !
Looks an exciting prospect ,who is likely to develop favourably under the ITFC coaching and tuition !

I luv this signing. K mk going for pace and power throughout our team. Burns and leigh down the flanks . J.j and A n other up front. We need one more fast thinking midfielder alongside morsey now to complete the team. Any thoughts ? Anyone?

Wow!!!
Just curious Bazza8564 and this is not a negative( before anyone slaps the mark down) but what are you basing “ a front line that will challenge” on.
Jackson - poor and not looked like scoring most of time he's been here
Ladapo has an okayish record at this level
Jules hasn't scored many on any of his loan forays and they have all been at this level.
Personally, after last season where we seemed to get most players in that we went for,I'm a little disappointed we haven't set our sights higher in the strikers.
Jackson- don't care how many down marks but for the life of me I cannot see what kmc sees in him-just look at his record for us
Ladapo- I like this signing
Jules - let's be honest has done nothing of note in his shirt career so far - and herein lies the problem, these are not the type of player(imo) we should be signing if we are to get out of this sh1thole of a league.
Don't know the answer as good strikers cost good money

Lets face it when it comes to signing s we're not going to get big names or higher championship or better players so one has to adapt. K mk gone for lower championship and league one stalwarts. With j.j hes gone for an unproven with huge potential. Thats the best we can hope for in league one. No top player will drop too low down for any money unless he is passed it. So what is left go for proven pace and power with hopefully a little gem thrown in along the way. Jj i hope fits the bill. Together fans staff and players we will get up this year.

With all the signings being freebies, was hoping that was because we were saving it for a proven striker , not someone finding their feet....let's hope he proves more exciting than the music in that video.

Neither Optimistic or Pessimistic with the situation at the moment - time will tell.
Lets just hope something has been learnt from last season, and previously, and we can at least make a fist of that Top Six at long last.
As yet I'm to be convinced.

Timkatieadamitfc get ur facts right. Not all his loans have been at this level. Blackpool are in tjr championship. And let's be real. Thats massive jump up from the academy level football at arsenal. Scored 5 in 18 for donny. 9 in 11 foe England u18s. And picked at every age level from u16s up to now, in the u21s. That doesnr happen unless you have something about you. Dont thi k he's gonna be starting every week, or that he's the last striker we will sign neither. But just for once, cant our fans just get behind players when they sign. Not just write them off before they've even kicked a ball in anger for us.

Shef Wed mean business with these signings today! I'd have loved to have all 3 of Smith, Vaulks and Ihiekwe and all 3 would comfortably walk into our team. They were already better than us last season and I fear we will be playing for 2nd place, unless we can sign 2/3 top players to compete! Slightly underwhelmed by our business in comparison

Looks the real deal on video, just what we are missing, hopefully he can have a season fit and injury free, I like the look of this, as has been said time will tell but I have a real feeling he will do well for us.

McKenna knows him from his Academy days. He obviously sees something he can work with so good enough for me.

Still think Piggot will be on his way and our No1 striker isn't here yet!

Town fan from many years ago I now live near Highbury and support Arsena. Tyreece is the latest prospect to emerge - internally he is highly thought of but this will be a key loan move for him. Several younger players have been sent out on loan so Tyreece will have to step up and produce for the Town. If he does well then there is a pathway to first team - he has been part of first team training and on the bench a couple of times. He will be playing for his career so let's hope he can step up.

Shows some real touches of quality in the video, hoping he can produce more of those for us. Highlight videos obviously give a very warped view of a player as they cherry pick all the best bits and airbrush out all the mistakes. Even so, the highlights look good enough to me to suggest he has some real quality on the ball and looks well worth trying out.
