Town Host Bolton on Opening Day
Thursday, 23rd Jun 2022 09:15

Town will face Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road on Saturday 30th July, the opening day of 2022/23.

Last season the Trotters did the double over the Blues, inflicting a 5-2 defeat in Suffolk before winning 2-0 in Lancashire.

The Blues’ first ever visit to newly-promoted League Two champions Forest Green Rovers follows the week after with Liam Manning's MK Dons visiting Suffolk on Saturday 13th August.

Three days later, Town visit Burton Albion, then the Blues take a trip to Shrewsbury on Saturday 20th August. The opening month ends with Barnsley at Portman Road.

September sees an away game at Accrington Stanley, then Cambridge and Bristol Rovers at home, before visits to Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle.

At Christmas, Town are away at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday 17th December, then host Oxford United on Boxing Day. That’s followed by a visit to Portsmouth on Thursday 29th December and a New Year’s Day trip to Lincoln City.

At Easter, the Blues are at home to Wycombe on Good Friday, April 7th, and away Cheltenham on the Monday.

Town’s run-in continues with Charlton visiting Portman Road on Saturday 15th April, Port Vale making the same trip on the Tuesday, a visit to Peterborough on Saturday 22nd April and Exeter at home the following week, before the Blues end the season with an away game at Fleetwood on Saturday 6th May.

In addition to the early-season visit to Burton and the Christmas Portsmouth fixture, away midweek games also include Port Vale on Tuesday 25th October and Bristol Rovers on Tuesday 14th February.

A full list of Town’s League One fixtures can be found here.

The draw for round one of the Papa John’s Trophy takes place at 11.30am with the Carabao Cup round one draw at 2.30pm. Both are being shown live by Sky Sports News.

Although it's true we have to play everyone home and away and it shouldn't matter when we play them, that's not strictly true. Some teams have a slow start to the campaign whilst others finish strongly and there is an element of luck if the fixture list means you play those teams early on. For instance I'd rather play Oxford and Pompey early on as they tend to have slow starts.

Excited to get down to PR for day 1.

I can't see us dropping more than a couple of points this season......

Can't understand the pessimism from some people. This is our year, we're gonna blow everyone away. Champions for sure, have faith.

@ringwood I know what you are saying but run ins and starts look very different in hindsight. Charlton at home last game of the season was a nothing game… but start of the season it could have been envisaged as a promotion decider. I'd rather us just be a good side and beat more teams than we lose to… which over 46 games is what shows whether you are a good side or not. Maybe newly promoted teams or smaller clubs want to play some lesser teams early on at home so they can get some points on the board but in league one we shouldn't care who we play and when.

Hilarious stuff. Opposing fans won't be thinking...'Gotta go to the game today, its Ipswich'. We have no more relevance/pulling power than anyone else. We've proved nothing other than we were the 11th best side last season in this ever improving league. This time last year the fixtures came out and we were nailed on(by many) to be winning our first six or seven games and coasting the rest of the campaign. Less arrogance more respect, less cocksure attitude, more humility. Offer me top 6 I'm taking it. I see a forum consisting of people who never learn, thinking success is a given, because we have a bit of cash and a decent following.Frightened to death to say anything negative or honest for fear of being marked down. I think we'll finish 9th, because the more we big ourselves the further away we get. We're Ipswich Town, and success doesn't come around too often. Feet firmly rooted people, as always it'll be far more difficult than many envisage.

I don't think people think success as a given. I do think too many people think failure is a given. Acceptance of mediocrity has plagued us too long. Without high demands and expectations on the team the decline will inevitably continue.

Great post Chepstowblue and can't agree more buddy.

Facts

We finished 11th last season and have only shipped out a few and got three new signings
No one will roll over because we are Ipswich in this division
We still haven't signed a real goal scorer
There are much stronger squads in this division Sheff Wednesday and Peterborough not to mention those teams that finished above us last year MK Dons, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Oxford, Wycombe

Some of our fans are deluded !
