Norwood Holds Bristol Rovers Talks
Sunday, 26th Jun 2022 09:44

Released Blues striker James Norwood has held talks with League One new boys Bristol Rovers.

The 31-year-old was released by Town at the end of 2021/22 after three years at the club.

According to Football Insider, Norwood is “advanced talks” with the Pirates, who dramatically won promotion back to League One on the final day of the season.

They also report that Charlton, Portsmouth, Oxford and Plymouth have shown interest.

TWTD understands that Norwood has spoken to Rovers, who are managed by Joey Barton, who previously targeted the frontman when Fleetwood boss before Town signed him following his Tranmere exit in the summer of 2019, and has held talks with a number of other clubs. However, a move to the Gas looks close to being confirmed.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen, who have been in talks with the Blues regarding the signing of keeper Vaclav Hladky, have signed Derby number one Kelle Roos.

That may well spell an end their interest in the Czech with the clubs having been unable to agree a fee.

Beattiesbackpocket. Nsybe we fo need better, but to fj do we have to pay big wages, which we can't do bcse of the wage limit. Ad for Stickton? He's rubbish. Yes, he had a decent season last season, but hes had 11 clubs in 12 years. No decent player moves around that much. Clarke Harris maybe, but he's not leaving peterborough. Said at the end of the season that he wants to get them back up. I know tgatcdoesnt necessarily mean that much, but can't see him being a possibility.

Yeah, cider and Norwood is a good idea. Don't care if he doesn't get a club. Serial drunk drivers belong in prison.

Gamechanger/KM are interested in character as well as statistics. We can match his statistics or better them and we can easily better his character.

Jonson Clarke Harris as said above would be an excellent addition and almost certainly would get 20 goals at league one level. The trouble is Peterborough would probably want about 5 million, with that idiot Fry still at the helm.

Just watch his impressive scoring record next season wherever he goes - a no brainer to have kept him in my opinion.
Much for this Club of ours, and McKenna to prove next season … !!!
No less than ‘top six' has to be the expectation Target.
Can't see what we've done thus far this close season, as having improved our chances at all.
Let's hope I'm wrong … !!!

Where's the Goal Machine ? - that we've sadly lacked ???

I know I'm probably in a minority of 1 on this, but I really hope we don't go after Clarke-Harris; I just don't rate him high enough as a finisher. He's a bit like Ladapo in that respect. Yes he scored 20+ for Peterborough when they went up, but that side was set up to be incredibly attacking & he wasn't the only one banging them in for that side. I don't think he'll ever be a top Championship level striker & certainly won't follow in Ivan Toney's footsteps.
For that reason, I think Peterborough may well cash in if someone (hopefully not us) splashes £4 million on him; they'd probably reinvest it wisely on a replacement.

He seemed like a wrong'un - it was right not to take the risk of him coming good.
The skill will be in replacing him with someone who WILL score goals

There seems to me an urban myth among us town fans that Norwood was a natural finisher. Yes he scored goals but he missed a lot of fairly easy one on ones for a professional footballer. Not the standard needed for a team that wants promotion. Appreciated the effort but will not miss him feeling the need to run 50 yards to get in a scrap just to get booked. Pretty confident should we come up against him Morsy will be clever enough to get him sent off.

Norwood at 31 on 8.4K a week? Sorry we can do better and taking our option on him would have meant the same money. Ladapo wasn't released by Rotherham, his contract ran out and we attracted him here so he told the Millers he wouldn't sign again, despite their promotion. Big difference….
As for Hladky, he will be a capable deputy, he won't be on big money and if Aberdeen can sell a CH for 4.5m to Liverpool and they want him, they either pay his worth or they miss out.
It seems a bit strange one minute everyone is begging up their faith in KM a d MA and the next minute going off on one. Those fellas know exactly what they are doing, we've released low impact players this summer, committed god ones to longer deals, have recruited 4 players with no transfer fees and KM has clearly stated there will be a couple more.

Towards the end of his career maybe just needs a new challenge to get things moving again. An excellent player on his day but became too sporadic. Moved from a reliable starter to an impact sub. As he was one of the higher earners it's probably for the best to release the funds allocated to his wages. We just need to bring in someone sharp and reliable - just like around 91 other teams are trying to do!

Bazza8564. If you think Norwood was on £8.4k a week ur deluded. Taking into account that it was well documented that when walton signed he became our top earner on £6.5k love to know where u got that figure. Even more so, when our top earner the previous season was judge on £4.5k.

@blues1 so you think drink driving is ok? The bloke wasn't even close to the the limit on the two occasions he was caught. It would be pretty obvious than unless he's the unluckiest bloke in the world they weren't the only two times he got behind the wheel after drinking too much. Scumbags and those that support them. Couldn't care less if Norwood never kicks a ball again and think the next time he does it justice would be him getting caught and sent to prison.

blues1: why do you have to put down another fan every time you post on here? You were a referee once weren't you? Weren't you supposed to de-escalate arguments, not start them? I bet you booked a lot of players for "dissent" didn't you? Well, yellow card to you, sir!

blues1 - your post yesterday 15.38 - were you out drinking with Norwood??. complete lack of a coherent sentence.

Norwood will go where the best golf courses are and somewhere he can buy a decent trainer or two

This has unfortunately become no place for sensible comment - much of it has degenerated into almost hatred and abuse of other Fans.
Has it been taken over by Aliens, Kids, and Christ only knows what else.
Whatever, it's certainly lost the great credibility it once had.

Blues 1, I stand corrected, previous season Norwood was indeed on £4200 plus bonuses, half what id read on here previously. But of you think Judge was our top earner on 4.5k, cobblers. Have a look https://salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-league-one/highest-paid/.
keenan Bennets £18k, (probably portion paid) Emyr Huws £6300, Troy Parrot £7000 Alan Judge £6500 not £4500 so before you slaughter everybody else, get your own facts right fella. And also, I cant find anything saying Walton is actually on £6500, all the club have said is that he was the highest paid player and that wasn't an official statement.
And as for Norwood, it matters not about the money because I can tell you categorically that Norwood's contract would never have been renewed, the US owners mandated that once his DD conviction came through. They also initially were the cause of him training with the U23s and only desperation pre Xmas did they relent on his involvement at all.
