Town Rebuff Simpson Offers
Monday, 4th Jul 2022 10:10

TWTD understands Town have rebuffed a number of offers for striker Tyreece Simpson this summer.

Towards the end of last season, the 20-year-old, who scored 11 goals during a successful loan spell at Swindon in the first half of 2021/22, told the Blues he wanted to move on this summer having turned down the offer of a new contract in January.

Town have taken up a one-year option on his previous contract in order to secure a fee which is likely to be higher than the training compensation they would otherwise have received.

TWTD reported in April that Luton, Peterborough and Barnsley had all shown interest, while Middlesbrough and Huddersfield were subsequently linked.

We understand a number of those clubs have approached the Blues but up to now no one has matched Town’s valuation which is believed around £600,000.

Meanwhile, TWTD has learned that the Blues spoke to Fulham regarding the loan signing of striker Jay Stansfield last month.

The 19-year-old England U18 and U20 international, who is also being targeted by other League One sides, was under serious consideration, however, the Blues eventually opted to sign Tyreece John-Jules on loan from Arsenal.

Liking this, glad we don't role over anymore and let players/agents mug us off because the player thinks they are better than what they are.

Still a shame about losing the lad, unfortunately it seems that a lot of the wrong people have got in his ear.

Wish him well - I think he would benefit most from getting into a club and a having a good pre-season. Hope that is the advice he is receiving and that we are being fair in the process

I think the fee is about right although all clubs ask more than what they really want and normally accept a bid somewhere near it. Peterborough might be a good move for him they seem to have a habit of producing good strikers.

600k feels ambitious for a striker with a goof half season in L2.

Maybe the plan is for him to be part of the 1st team squad if we get past transfer deadline. Its feels a bit lose lose if that's tbe case though as if he doesn't hit his straps he doesn't get in the team and walks. If he does his agent will be in his ear and he walks.

Worth it if he fires us to the championship I suppose

It seems that the general opinion of him is that he's a player who is worth a punt at league 1 level. Swindon fans seemed to think he improved almost every game so that's a good trajectory to be on. It is a shame that he or his representatives weren't a little more patient because if he had signed an extension to his contract and banged in 30 goals for Swindon, we would all relishing him putting on a blue shirt in a month's time. If he then did the same for us he'd be a Championship player and then contract negotiations become a lot more interesting. I also wonder if either he or, again, his representation thought that the Swindon purple patch was just that and he had to cash in asap. Just think how Bonne's value fluctuated last year.

I understand him wanting to move on, but after the manager change he really should have been open to staying. He would have been quite likely to get on the bench at least and then he would have a chance to prove himself. Maybe, he feels more comfortable with playing somewhere with less pressure. It's a shame most footballers don't care about where they came from.

£600k seems like a lot given that in the second half of last season he couldn't get into our first team, but with Downes apparently worth £10 million after just one season in the Championship in suppose that anything is possible.

Need to be careful. We tried to hold out for more money from Aberdeen for Hladky and they just bought a different keeper. Now it looks like we're stuck with a bad 2nd keeper on high wages.

This is poor man management for me. Does the manager want him as a player in an Ipswich shirt or not? If yes tell him that and give the young man something to hang onto. If not accept a reasonable fee and let him go so he can bed down at another club.

Love this.
Make promotion rivals suffer and send out a strong message to agents.

I don't mind playing hardball, but the risk is we can't move him this window and his value plummets in January since his contract expires at the end of the year.

The boy wants out, so if anyone offers 500K and a nice sell on clause and I would bite their hand off...

Veggie. Hladky is a good keeper. He was just unfortunate to play at a time when Cook was changing the defence every single game. Adk any keeper, and they'll tell u, they need a settled defence in front of them to get their confidence. That happened at Salford, hence he kept 23 clean sheets in his one season there. Plus, if he's poor, as u say, why was it that when salford were making their move to sign him he was also wanted by wba and Juventus?

Hard to really comment with any certainty on the Simpson situation. We don't really know the arguments. Kieron certainly didn't think Simpson was being treated fairly but there are claims about his representation being unreasonable. I'm disappointed it's got to this but I'd be lying is I said I knew where some or all the blame should be distributed. He's a young lad and whatever happens I wish him well.

As much as I don't want agents and players dictating to the club this has perhaps been handled a little ham fisted. Simpson I suspect is unfortunate in that the club are making an example of him. However without having been in those conversations it's all speculation and conjecture. He was may have been offered far less than he can get elsewhere with little chance of playing first team football at Ipswich.

Mikemuhrenthijssen, he was told to work hard and work his way back into the reckoning, he chose to tell Ipswich he wants to move on!

Tyreece is young, he came back from Swindon and things didn't go to plan for him either injury or KMc wanting to view more seasoned pro's in the team and choosing not to look at him for the time being (should we have given TS games when he came back?? IMO defo) one for the future may have been KMc thoughts, probably under pressure from an agent and the disappointment of not being played his youthful disillusionment prompted a transfer request!! Now if you haven't listen to the renegade statmans podcast with KD I know it was months ago but the point he makes is the whole situation with TS could change as he is still our player and whilst he is our player if he does get a good run in the team at the start of the season his mind could change, most of us are old enough to know you never know in football!!

BlueHarmony added 14:18 - Jul 4
KMc was never going to play him with the stance he took returning from Swindon and refusing to sign a new contract.

The boy must be getting bad advice from family, friends or his agent, as he should be able to see that the Town need strikers.

I'm confident that KMc has the man-management skills to deal with this, if there is a future to be had here for TS. Just use the Woolfy situation as a benchmark

The Lad, for whatever reason clearly does not want to be at our Club.
Therefore no point in holding him back, wherever he goes he'll score Goals tho' and move on with his career.

I think it's probably less a man management issue from McKenna, than the club deciding to take a stand & send out a clear message that we won't be pushovers for agents & other clubs. Simpson may be unlucky that he is the first real case of attempted player power that the new owners & CEO have been faced with; as they are making a stand now with an eye very much on the future.

The boy needs to be a man, but that's by working hard and being grateful, not acting like Billy Big B!@#$$%^s

ElephantintheRoom added 16:22 - Jul 4
You never know McKenna might actually play him, especially with 5 subs to play with. Can't be worse than playing another reject on loan - and could be hugely beneficial. Be a change to see a home grown striker succeed at Town rather than Huddersfield or Posh

The issues with this are 100% with his agent, i understand from a very senior source at the club that he is young and easily dominated and his agent is telling him what to do by bullying him. When Ashton spoke about this situation at the March Forum he was categoric speaking about Simpson that “ipswich town will not be held to ransom by agents”
Please don't blame the kid, he has his agent in his ear badgering him to move so he can get a fee, nothing else. Personally i'd keep him and work on him.

Change your agent TS to someone has YOUR best interests at heart. There are plenty within the club, or former vastly experienced players who are locally based, who would give sound, sensible, advice and want nothing in return.
