Pigott Pompey Loan Move Close to Being Confirmed
Monday, 11th Jul 2022 16:17

TWTD understands Town striker Joe Pigott’s loan move to Portsmouth is close to being confirmed.

News that Pompey were targeting the 28-year-old emerged earlier today and we understand a loan deal with an option to buy is well down the line and set to go through in the next few days.

Pigott joined Town on a free transfer after leaving AFC Wimbledon last summer but made little impact in his first season with the Blues and it had been expected that the Maidstone-born frontman would move on this summer despite having two years left on his contract.

Town have already added Freddie Ladapo to their squad during the close season with a bid for Leicester’s former Portsmouth loanee frontman George Hirst understood to have been turned down.

Pigott scored three times in 14 starts and 15 sub appearances in all competitions during 2021/22.

Pretty sure much has been thoroughly thought through ,and very very much hope Piggott can find his feet again, enjoy his football and be able to contribute to a squad he becomes an intricate part of .
All professionals actually do want and need to feel needed and contribute confidently .
Good luck, sir .,

….. much in the way of Supporter Assumption - but little in the way of evidence as yet….. !!!
Much also in the way of optimism for the season - but as yet, I don't see it - and I would hazard a guess a few Supporters having paid for their Season Tickets are feeling a bit apprehensive …!!!
Time for some action - or there could be a long season ahead.
Study the Opposition, and activity elsewhere … !!!

He probably needs a move. Could be good for him. Whether it's good for us, time will tell but at least he won't play against us.

He isn't good enough and that isn't down to managers he was not as good as Nors and he left. Just ensure we get another striker in even if it is a loan striker to get us out of this division.

He might score a shed load next season or he might not. Fact is he done nothing for us last season and the stats don't suggest otherwise. I personally wanted him to succeed as I said on here many times, but no room for sentimentality when your on the up like us next season.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on next season for Portsmouth...largely poor for us, but consistent to good for Wimbledon the previous 3 seasons, as long as we replace him (maybe we have done with the Arsenal lad).

But our lack of quality signings with 3 weeks to go is a big big worry.....another season of a fews ups but more downs....worried? You should be.....

why all the negativity.

Town wanted most if not all his wages off the books so that they can bring in a quality striker.

If we can also get in a decent lwb the supporters can look forward to an enjoyable season. Would also imagine Celina coming back to complete a very strong Squad.

Blueboy1981 yer, he scored 2. Against crawley. In a friendly. Big deal. How many goals did he score in his last 31 games here? Hexwas played to hisxstrengths here too. Don't actually care how many goals he scores next season anyway. He's staying at qpr. So wont be that many I doubt. And they won't affect us.

Did anyone see Piggott play last season? He couldn't couldn't hold on to the ball, couldn't pass the ball to one of our players, couldn't win a header despite his height, kept falling over with the ball. He had so many chances to prove himself last season and he just couldn't deliver.
This is great tactical move by KM to weaken one of our possible promotion opponents and free up cash to strengthen our squad.

Blueboy1981. God u talk rubbish. Ur the only fan, and u use that word sparingly where ur involved, that's apprehensive about this season. As for movement elsewhere? There's actually very little movement anywhere. The only club signing a lot of players is derby, and tgsts bcse they only had 5 players in their squad. And some of those have since left. Really wonder why u don't just go and support liverpool or man city give u something to be positive about. Tho I'm sure ud still manage to be constantly negative. We've signed 4cppaywrs and there will be at least 2 more to come. So what's the issue? Or do u want us to be signing 18 or 19 again like last season, and having to wait for them to gel as a team again?

Robsonwark. How did hexhave so many chances last season? He played 5 games at the start of the season, scored 3 goals. Then didn't playcagain for around 3 months. Iy made 9 more starts plus sub appearances of around 10-15 minutes at the end of games. That's not giving a player a chance to settle and get his confidence. Actually read an article earlier where Paul Cook was apologising for not gibing him more games. Maybe if he had, we'd have seen a whole different player. Fans treating him the same way the did with will keane theseason before. We all know what happened there. And the same fans who defend bonne loss of form in the 2nd half of the season due to him having family issues, don't take into account that piggott lost his father during the season. Just slag him off and say he's crap. Sums up some of our fans im afraid.

Pigott was given another chance at Needham Market and yet again failed to impress. I don't think he's happy here so he needs to move on. An imminent departure would usually mean an imminent arrival but I'm not sure that's the case in this instance. Sometimes you just have to part ways as dressing room disharmony can be infectious. I wish Joe well. I'm sorry it didn't work out for him here.

some players have clubs that are good fits, Wimbledon was piggot's team! his goals record before and after was in the main extremely poor! No real loss and I'm hoping it means we have a forward lined up!

Needed a move didn't he, just hasn't clicked here and probably given the death of his dad not great association with his time at the club up to now.

He can't play against us, part of his big wages off the bill, if he scores a bunch it should impact at least some of the teams we'll need to finish above and maybe next year he becomes saleable or reintergrateable next summer

A good move for all parties. Pigott hasn't looked good here so we don't want to keep him here on high wages. Pompey are rich enough to pay most of his wages & he won't be able to play against Town. This also means we are likely to bring in another striker. Again good to see business being done early rather than cobbling together deals at the last minute. What's not to like?

Seemed a promising signing but was very poor for us last season, probably our worst striker so not surprised to see this, hopefully this move with open up the door and money for a more able replacement.

blues1 we are talking professional players who train a couple of days a week maybe 3 or 4 times a week and get paid very GOOD money and yet can't do the simplest of things when they get called up to play in the first team. If they can't handle the heat then we need to get rid of them! Do you want to get OUT of this division? Or do you just not want to hurt the feelings of these HIGHLY paid players, in their very nice Ipswich Town shirts, driving their VERY nice cars every day.

Really disappointed with this. I still believe Pigott could be a regular goalscorer in our team with a decent run of games. The fella is goals at this level as proven in the past. Genuinely sad to see him go.
