Norwood Joins Barnsley
Saturday, 16th Jul 2022 18:05

Former Town striker James Norwood has completed his move to Barnsley, signing a one-year deal with the Tykes having an option for a further season.

The 31-year-old was released by Town at the end of 2021/22 after three years at the club and had seemed set to join Bristol Rovers last month only for manager Joey Barton to pull the plug on the deal at with the move all but done.

Barnsley CEO, Khaled El-Ahmad, told his club’s official website: “We are pleased that James has made the decision to come to Oakwell.

“He arrives at Barnsley FC with a solid understanding of League One, and everyone at the club extends their warmest welcome to him.”

Norwood added: “I know it’s a big club. I haven’t been fortunate to play against Barnsley in my career, but I’m really looking forward to getting started and I’m proud to wear the shirt.”

He was let go primarily to free up his wages. The squad is both weaker and stronger by this, we will miss him but I firmly believe the current squad is much stronger with the re-proportioned wages.

Anyone defending Norwood needs to check their principals. “Caught” drink driving twice way over the limit. Tries to argue against a ban because it's inconvenient. Frankly it's highly unlikely statistically that those were the only two times he did this… otherwise his odds are about the same as getting the winning lottery numbers. I'm of the opinion that people that far over the limit should go to prison…. You defenders of him offer me an argument why he isn't a scumbag… none of you can.

For a thug, he is surprisingly smart and articulate. I wish him the best of luck with his new club.

Watch his ‘exit' video on YouTube and I'd expect most to conclude that he's not the full ticket. Starts off okay and seems pretty humble and genuine, supportive of the young players etc. but then he goes into the Billy big b@ll@cks I'm a hard nut language and that he's some kind of wizard on twitter - he's neither in my book - and sounds like a right pr1ck if you ask me. I admired his effort although obviously not a naturally gifted striker. He scored some crucial goals but his self professed one goal every 180 minutes for us is a gross exaggeration. I wouldn't go as far as the comment above but I would say that overall he's a wrong ‘un around the club and that's a key reason why he's gone. A lower end L1 player at best and surprise surprise that's where he's ended up. He would never cut in in the Championship and it's that level of player that we need.

Why are people banging on about him so much? Hes 31 and scored a goal just over every 3 games for us yet when we want to sign and up and coming youngster Hirst with the same record (so far) who can only keep on improving some people come on here saying he's not good enough. Same people who say getting someone from the same division isn't good enough 🙄
People need to Move on he wasn't prolific by any means in this league, league two yes but still didn't prove it in this league even piggot has proven he can get 20 plus goals in a season in this league yet people want him out and he has a better record in this league than norwood 🤣

Agreed 100% Monkey_Blue. Drink driving is not “making a mistake”, it's a conscious decision to do something unbelievably dangerous to everyone else who might happen to be near by. If he'd hit and injured/killed someone while driving pissed everyone here would be saying what a sh*t he is. Just because he was lucky and didn't cause an accident doesn't mean the decision to drive in that state was anything other than awful. And as you say, being caught on two different occasions strongly suggests he did it a lot more times. Yes he played well for us and I'm grateful for that, but honestly I'm glad he's gone. Don't want people like that anywhere near our club.
