Celina's Kasımpaşa Move Off
Wednesday, 20th Jul 2022 12:50

TWTD understands former Blues loanee Bersant Celina’s loan move to Turkish side Kasımpaşa from parent club Dijon has fallen through.

Celina was in Istanbul to complete his switch to the Süper Lig club yesterday but we understand that deal has now broken down.

Prior to the Kosovo international’s proposed Turkish move, Town had been in talks with the forward regarding his return to Portman Road for a third spell - a loan with a view to a permanent move as was the case with Kasımpaşa - for much of the summer with the player understood to be keen on the switch but having been unable to come to an agreement with the player regarding terms.

The Blues signed Marcus Harness, who can operate in similar roles to Celina, on Friday and although it was believed Town were still keen, it’s understood no further contact was made following the addition of the former Pompey attacker. However, the Kasımpaşa move breaking down could well see the Blues renew their interest.

As revealed last week, Stoke looked to be the 25-year-old’s destination until his work permit situation caused the proposed switch to collapse.

In addition to Kasımpaşa, another Turkish club Antalyaspor also held talks and earlier in the summer Preston were keen but their interest is understood to have cooled and would anyway have been impacted by the work permit issue, which affects all English clubs.

Other clubs could also come into the running with Scottish Premiership Rangers now believed to be keen, although with that interest understood to be in its very early stages. Scottish clubs are not affected by the work permit situation as they have an exemption.

Dijon remain in French Ligue 2 and have needed Celina, who has another two years left on his contract, off their wage bill for the season ahead with the one-time Swansea man not having joined them for the start of pre-season.

Celina spent last season on loan at Town having previously been with the Blues during 2017/18 while a Manchester City player and is very much a fans' favourite at Portman Road.

FFS, getting bored of this now. Just want an answer either way. Owner if theres any truth in the rangers link that was being mentioned on the forum, or even if we're still interested.

(FFS, I do still care don't I..)

Surely this deal shouldn't have been a hard one.

We're led to believe he wants to sign for us. He can't sign for anyone else in the UK. His move to a club with 2,500 fans has fallen through. Surely he would want to reduce his demands and join us.

Oh no. Just when u think the saga of whether we're gonna sign him or not appears to be over, it's all gonna start again. Imo, while I wouldn't be against signing him, I'd rather we didn't. For 2 reasons. 1. I dont think, now we have harness, that we actually need him. And 2, if we sign him, it could affect our attempts to sign a striker. Partly due to the wages, and partly bcse of the fact we can only name a 22 man squad of players over the age of 21. Think signing another striker is more important than signing celina.

Blueblood90. It's not to do with his demands. It's to do with what percentage of his wages dijon want us to pay. Which is bound to be more this time. Plus whatever loan fee they are demanding. We cannot just pay whatever they want wages wise due to the limit on wages. If we did, it's likely thered be no wages for another striker, which is far more important than signing him.

Says in this article that we couldn't agree terms with Celina.

"Town had been in talks with the forward regarding his return to Portman Road for a third spell - a loan with a view to a permanent move as was the case with Kasımpaşa - for much of the summer with the player understood to be keen on the switch but having been unable to come to an agreement with the player regarding terms."

No surprise there after he found out who financed the club and where his salary was coming from on a average gate of 2500

Surely no one is surprised by this. If we are still interested then then our leverage has just gone up a notch!

We don't need Celina!!!!! We need players who are 100% in all games. Celina goes missing in far too many games. If he's have been a hit he would have played more games. Connor Chaplin and Sone Aluko can play that role perfectly well.

Are we massive or aren't we ?! He's a better footballer than the very decent Harness and capable of things that players at this level generally aren't. Get it done Town.

Every side needs a luxury player, and with the pathetic 5 subs rule coming into operation, Celina (if not starting) would be the best impact player in the squad.

Blue blood. That was about kampiasa. Not us. And thats bcse their deal was a loan with a view to buy so would have been negotiating what theyd pay him when /if he signed permanently.

OMG ! Here we go again.

Chepstowblue. Very few teams need or can afford to have a luxury player. Especially in lge1. Need players zero are gonna work their socks off if things not quite going for them. Ur right that hed be great coming on as a sub as an impact player butcwe cannot afford to be signing players for that. Plus, im sure ud agree, we need another striker. Think if we sign celina, there won't be another striker coming in. For 1, wage limit. 2. We can only name 22 players over 21. And we're on that limit almost, already. So which is more important? Him, or a striker? For me, it's a striker, all day long.

Id suggest Celina and his agent are being greedy and BC has no loyalty to any one club , except the one that pays the most money. We made him an offer and he has seen fit to go to TWO different clubs , to the point of signing for each of them in turn. So id say , thanks but no thanks to him now . Were done .

We actually may have got ourselves a much better player for League One and Championship than this latest apparent mercenary .....
