Friday, 22nd Jul 2022 12:11

Town season ticket sales are close to the 16,500 mark, the club has announced, with more than 23,000 seats sold for the opening day clash against Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road.

Season ticket sales are higher than for more than a decade with the new season starting a week on Saturday.

Earlier in the week, Town reported that all season ticket cards should have be dispatched by yesterday.

So proud of my club right now. No doubt our amazing away support will grow in numbers this season too.

Agreed. I think if we do well, we could be approaching capacity most games, depending on number of away fans.

The excitement and momentum is building.

MA has spoken about his target of 28k average, that's the number that I think will trigger the plans to expand the capacity with the extended or new Cobbold stand. Lets get to that number, get the pitch done next summer and start thinking about 37500 capacity and more growth.

BOSSMAN, I read your comment and would have written exactly the same words :)

BossMan, don't think our away support can grow much bigger in this league as we more ofton than not sell out our allocation as it is.

Although last season was a bit disappointing it just goes to show if you play entertaining football the crowds will come back. Correct me if im wrong but under Mick McCarthy weren't the crowds down to 12,500 even when we were doing reasonably well. If we start the season well playing the same entertaining football I can see us filling the ground to capacity on several occasions.

I don't get to a huge number of games but I always try and make a point of going to the first game of the season. Can't wait!

Linkboy: when you say "last season was a bit disappointing," do you mean, "our worst finish ever?" You correctly note how Mick McCarthy was the last manager to get us withing spitting distance of the Prem, but because he played ugly football, fans stopped coming. I hope those 16,000 fans are enjoying entertaining football in the Third Division and wonderful venues like Forest Green.

Yes loving it BBN. And can't wait for the L1 season to start…the days of Mick Ma seems a lifetime away. I really enjoy match days now….unlike back then

Butchers Broken Nose I wouldn't waste £30 watching MM team in Championship despite Ian Milne - ex ITFC director saying "where else can you get 2 hours of entertainment for £30?" - There was NO entertainment at Portman Road during MM's management of the team. Hoof ball up field and headed back then hoof ball back again. No need for midfielders in his team. He should have played 5 at the back and 5 up front and maybe we might have scored a few more goals. I grew up in SBR era so I am LOVING KMcK football now!

A good start to the Season is a must, expectancy and euphoria is high hence the sale of Season Tickets being what they are.
Personally, I wish I could be more optimistic but am fearful of yet another lack of Goals - we are short of a Striker for sure with Pigott now gone as well.
Much to prove this Season, and a poor start would seriously and quickly dampen the enthusiasm.
My question still is:- Where are the Goals going to come from ? - don't expect too much of Ladapo, without the necessary he feeds off.
Sincerely hope I'm wrong, but have a feeling some will be in for a disappointment.
Much more could, and should have been done.
Players have been, and still are available …. !!!

Blueboy1981 have we not been scoring goals in preseason friendlies...or is it fake news?

Why are there soooooooooo many negative comments about scoring goals next season?? How many strikers do we need? Would you be happy if we just fielded 11 strikers and no goalkeeper, no defenders, no midfielders??? Grow up!! We are going up to the Championship as WINNERS of League 1 this time!!

Incredible support once again with a definite feel good factor creeping back around the club. You have to admit that most clubs are optimistic or should be. The goals i hope will come from several players as we still lack IMHO that 20 plus striker.
A word of warning as we well know Bolton is a tough start win loose or draw we back the blues regardless. 💙⚽️💙⚽️💙⚽️
