Evans: We Showed More Confidence in the Second Half
Sunday, 24th Jul 2022 09:21

Midfielder Lee Evans thought Town showed more confidence in the second half of their 1-1 draw at Millwall and might well have scored more than Freddie Ladapo's 54th-minute goal.

Evans started in the centre of midfield and played the first 64 minutes before being replaced.

“It was good, I enjoyed it,” he said. “I think in the first half we could have been better at times, but we’re coming to a tough place, a good team, a mid-table Championship team.

“After the first half I think we all came in thinking we could do a bit more, a bit more confidence and we’d really get on top, and I think we showed that in the second half and got the goal we deserved.

“Maybe could have got more, we played a lot of football in their half, so overall a pleasing day which sets us up now for Tuesday.”

Reflecting on pre-season overall with just the home game against Southend on Tuesday to come, the Welshman added: “I think, to be fair, we’ve had some tough games this pre-season, I think that’s what the manager’s wanted, he’s wanted us to be really challenged.

“Obviously the boys had Palace the other day, we played Wimbledon, which was a slightly different game, but today we were coming up against a mid-table Championship team, really strong, always do well, always tough. You know you’re in a game when you come to Millwall.”

I think it showed there isn't a huge difference between say 14th down in the championship to the aspirational league one sides.
Get out this hell hole of a league.
Splash some cash and who knows.

Looking forward to Saturday now, with a growing sense of excitement and expectation. I think that we're probably still short of the mythical 20 a season proven goalscorer to complete the set-up, but who knows what this week might bring? Certainly starting the season with huge positivity but then, I've done that every season since 1968!

People keep saying we still need to sign a 20 goal a season man. Who's to say, we don't already have him in ladapo? Scored 15 last season despite playing only half the season. We do still need another striker tho

Could even be Jackson. He looked good till he got injured, looked very quick yesterday.
But agree need another hopefully Hurst he seem to be able to develop more.

Nice if we found another Mariner or Johnson but would prefer a Crawford or Phillips

I think we are going to score more goals in the last 20 minutes this year, our bench being strong, and now a stronger faster front line giving defenders a tough first hour, then having to chase either Jackson or Lapado not a happy thought for a defender, going to be interesting to see how many Sam scores this season that bullet of a shot with his standing foot yesterday, troubled a good keeper

We managed 67 league goals last season with our four main strikers only contributing 23 between them. Our centre-backs only got two. It's not too much of a stretch to expect 80 goals this season if four main strikers all get into double figures and we start scoring from set pieces. 16 draws is what killed us last year. I've always said that if you're 3 - 0 up then it doesn't matter if the opposition get a late goal COYB

No doubt GOALS win matches ,but perhaps we are starting to understand how to not only create chances but be in a better even great position to capitalise . K M has pointed out we need to take more out of what we do create and it seems there's a plan to ensure we're more of a presence in the last third !
Come on you Blues ,show us how and how many this season !

I think we will do well this season.
1. A more settled team.
2. Fluid formation.
3. A team with more physical and have more pace.
4. Everyone is first team which Means we have depth.
5. A manager who knows what he wants and hungry for success.
