Celina Completes Kasımpaşa Loan Move
Monday, 1st Aug 2022 20:36

Former Blues loanee Bersant Celina has signed on loan with Turkish side Kasımpaşa, TWTD understands, ending a lengthy summer transfer saga.

TWTD revealed this morning that Celina was travelling to Istanbul today to complete the switch to the Süper Lig side, a season-long loan from parent club Dijon with an option to buy, a fortnight after making the same trip and deciding not to make the move to the club whose average attendance last season was 2,451.

Town had been in talks with Celina regarding his return to Portman Road for a third spell - also a loan with a view to a permanent switch - for much of the summer with the player understood to be keen on a return but with no agreement on terms ever reached.

We understand no further discussions took place between the Blues and Celina following the 25-year-old’s previous trip to Istanbul.

As revealed last month, Stoke looked to be Celina’s destination until his work permit situation caused the proposed switch to collapse.

In addition to Kasımpaşa, another Turkish club Antalyaspor also held talks and earlier in the summer Preston were keen but their interest is understood to have cooled and would anyway have been impacted by the work permit issue.

Latterly, Rangers were believed to have been interested with Scottish clubs subject to an exemption regarding the work permit situation, but that ultimately came to nothing.

Fans' favourite Celina spent last season on loan at Town, scoring six times in 24 starts and 11 sub appearances, having previously been with the Blues during 2017/18 while a Manchester City player.

Finally.

Not sorry about this. Whatever makes him play in Turkey in front of 2500 people instead of Portman Road...

Now to det a striker that can put the ball in the net
As Saturday proved 17/18 shots on goal and only one in the net which was nearly 3 times Bolton had on goal
So get a striker that can score

Santi will probably regret the move, cos it's not all about money...but try telling that to his agent

In my view he always promised more than he delivered. Good luck though to him with the rest of his career

Very disappointed we didn't get Santi in for this season although I think his guile and passing range would be better suited to Championship level than League One so I am hoping we sign him next season after promotion!

Hope he's happy there. Certainly isn't ambitious it seems .

Great, now we can all move on ….

We didn't need him anyway ,we have four number 10s in the squad already, who are more than adequate.
The focus can now be on securing the quality striker we obviously need,to help us get out of this horrible league.

Let's stop sticking this on Santi. He has a parent club no doubt desperate to reduce their wage bill, so money does talk. We have done good business so far and that is a major step change for ITFC. Trust the process and if we really do need a striker (in KMK eyes) then feel sure one will arrive, but let's not over react to Saturday. Drawing against Bolton, having outplayed them esp in 2nd half, is progress! COYB and good luck in Turkey Santi....what I do agree with is that he will need it!

Not sure I agree we have done good business. Celina is a big miss for his creativity, not just for direct goals or assists. Lots of our goal last season he was a big factor in the build up play. We simply do not have that creative midfielder in the side now. I go to football to be entertained. I was bored on Saturday. Only created one clear cut chance. Aluko looked good but that was it.

As me dear old Mum used to say, 'He was all fur coat and no knickers' we need team players, give the new boys up front a bit of time, there are goals in our strikers, keep the faith. We don't need a part time player like Celina.

Don't blame the Player - we were in the driving seat to sign him, if we wanted him.
Personally, I believe better suited to higher level than Division Three.
More brawn and ruggedness required at this level - Celina's game, and thinking, was a yard ahead of some of the players around him last season.

Disappointed by this as I thought we would get him & he would do very well under McKenna for a full season, with no lingering illness issue affecting his first couple of months. He was one that could immediately step up to Championship football should we go up.
I think some people are being unfair to him with talk of money & lack of ambition. His club (Dijon) were desperately trying to get his wages - all of it - off their books. We don't know all the figures, but reports suggest that he was on a contract of £20k - £25k a week. If we were not prepared/able to go beyond say £10k, that's a lot that either Dijon or Celina himself would have to make up. How many people would give up 50% of their wages for a year?
Also, we are a 3rd tier side who finished 11th last season; Kasimpasa are in the top league in Turkey & are based in Istanbul.

Unbelievable that some quetion why he chose Turkey over us, I'm sure that if we had offered to pay enough of his wages to Dijon, he would have been allowed to come here as I doubt the Turkish side could pay as much as us with so few fans, with that in mind, I doubt we decided to take him back, given the other signings we had already made.

A lot of presumptions here that it was all about money on Bersant's side. It may well be, but it may be just as likely that McKenna / Ashton did not really want Bersant back, but as he is a fans favourite it had to be handled carefully.

imo he was over rated i was more worried we would get him than not, really cant understand the fuss. We need a goal scorer and now perhaps that will be a priority, good luck to him. Now lets move on .
