Burns Misses Latvia Trip Due to Injury
Sunday, 10th Sep 2023 11:18

Blues wideman Wes Burns has been ruled out of Wales’ Euro 2024 qualifier with Latvia in Riga due to injury.

Burns was due to join the rest of the squad, including Town teammate Nathan Broadhead, in travelling to Riga this afternoon but the Welsh FA have tweeted that the 28-year-old and keeper Wayne Hennessey won’t be making the trip.

The former Fleetwood man, whose injury issue isn't specified, picked up his fifth full cap as a sub in Thursday’s 0-0 friendly draw with South Korea in Cardiff. Broadhead made his first international start and also won his fifth cap.

As much as I like Burns there’s a strong argument to say that his place was already under threat from Hutch. Same goes for Clarke.

Saw this in match and commented in forum. He played a little reverse backpass and tweaked something

Not good. Hope it's not serious. However, Hutchinson is making strides and it would be interesting to see him start.

You never know with a tweak but it looked minor. He played on but was only a minute or so to go. Just looked a bit uncomfortable. Would be surprised if not something that will be 1-3 weeks but we will see.

Classic tommy boy overreaction. Getting really tiresome your trolling. Obviously we will get injuries this season. That couldn't be more obvious!!!! Why we have a squad.

We can very obviously do without injuries ;sadly I think WB does look a bit tight muscle wise and it’s as if it sometimes impedes his general movement . Let’s hope I’m wrong and he makes a rapid improvement .

We have a good squad at Town now, and if Butt re bd / Clark are both carrying injuries Id say Williams / Hutch will be more than capable replacements and dare I suggest it, an even stronger rights dude pairing. They certainly worked much better together than Burns / Clark did last Saturday. Burns doesn’t track back when not in possession.

Why do Wales always put him on the left?

I guess Burns has only a minor injury so it's a good thing he misses the Wales game & nthen he might be fit for Saturday.

Oops - looks like I was wrong. Let's hope it's a low grade hamstring strain. This is one of the reasons why many fans hate these humdrum international friendly matches. At least Hutchinson looks ready for a start, although not as a wing back.

if you've been in the game or know anything about it you'll know there's not a hope in hell of McKenna dropping Burns who has had a good season but not outstanding by his high standards. McKenna knows he offers so much more to the team not only in attack but also his unselfish work in defence. I like Jackson alot but he hasn't got Burns alround ability and technical skills. Hutchinson has also shown promise but will he be able to do it over 90 minutes. I think one of the reasons Burns gets criticism on here mostly by the numpty brigade is because he's been at the club a while now and he's taken for granted. McKenna rates him and that's all that matters.
