Winger Reed Dies Thursday, 16th Jan 2003 11:49 Former Town winger Billy Reed has died at the age of 74. Reed played for Town between 1953 and 1958, scoring 46 goals in 169 appearances. Reed was signed from Brighton by Scott Duncan and the Welshman's goals helped Town to the Division Three (South) championship in 1953/54. He also won winners medal for the same league in 1956/57. While at Portman Road Reed he played twice for Wales, making him the first Town player to win senior international caps. After retiring from football he became a local government officer in Swansea and last returned to Portman Road a year ago for the annual ex-players' dinner.
