Town Working on Deal to Sign Burnley Keeper Saturday, 13th Jul 2024 13:39 Town are working on a deal to sign Kosovo international keeper Arijanet Muric from Burnley.
The Blues have been on the lookout for a new number one following the departure of Vaclav Hladky, who left the club earlier this month having been unable to agree terms on a new deal at Portman Road.
TWTD can confirm national reports that the Blues have made a move for the 25-year-old and are currently working on the switch but with the deal not yet done.
According to The Athletic, a fee of £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons has been agreed between the clubs with a medical having been pencilled in.
Swiss-born Muric joined Manchester City’s youth set-up from Zurich-based Grasshoppers in 2015 and while at the Etihad spent spells on loan at NAC Breda, Nottingham Forest, Girona, Willem II and Adana Demirspor in Türkiye.
Having made five Carabao Cup appearances for City, the 6ft 6in tall glovesman joined Burnley on a four-year deal in the summer of 2022 was a member of the Clarets side which won the Championship in 2022/23, a season in which he was named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Last season, Muric made 10 Premier League starts for the Lancashire side - all in the final couple of months of the season - in addition to four games in cup competitions.
Overall, he has made 52 appearances for the Clarets, keeping 21 clean sheets.
A latter-day Paul Cooper or Roy Bailey, Muric has saved eight of 26 penalties over his career, including one from England skipper Harry Kane while in action for Kosovo in a Euros qualifier.
If the deal is confirmed, then Muric will become Town's second Kosovo international following Bersant Celina. The keeper has won 38 full caps, having previously made one U21 appearance for Montenegro.
Portman Road’s keeping ranks could be set for a major overhaul this summer following Hladky’s departure and Muric’s likely signing. Hladky has been linked with Banik Ostrava and Slavia Prague back in his home country.
Christian Walton could potentially move on for first-team football, while Cieran Slicker has said the next stage of his development is a move on loan with Scottish clubs Kilmarnock, Ross County and Partick Thistle all believed to be keen.
The Blues had previously been linked with Brighton’s Carl Rushworth, while Luton’s Thomas Kaminski.

What a load of misjudged comments on here it’s unbelievable.

Just like Trafford he made a couple of real bloopers but was under a lot of pressure behind a leaky defence. I'm getting a few Sereni vibes about this though he came from Italy and was not the main reason for our relegation

The fact that Phil and the gang have mentioned it probably means that he is close to being revealed.

Burnley’s fans rate him and are choked to see him go. They complain that he is way underpriced if the quoted figures are correct.

Monstrously tall, likes wearing gloves, acceptable hair, speaks human languages...get him in!

Baffled by the negativity - looks like a quality signing to me.

Many Burnley fans think they would have stayed up,if Muric had played earlier in the season.

Keeper in a record breaking Burnley side, displaced in the prem because Burnley spent big on Trafford.. won his place back for the last quarter of the season. Can’t say I was overly aware of him but I’m sure lots of analysis of the lad has been done…. Yet still we see people on here who as far as I’m aware haven’t studied him in detail and aren’t keeper experts but are casually dismissing him.

Didn't really displace Trafford last year, as he was taken out for making a few mistakes. Muric came in and then equally made several high profile mistakes costing Burnley points - the Nunez goal for Liverpool when Muric just passed it to him springs to mind!! Maybe a second choice, but certainly no better than Hladky for our first choice keeper next year

Getting my Merseyside strikers mixed up, wasn't Nunez - it was Calvert Lewis for Everton!

Christ the moaners are out again. This guy was their number one keeper season they were promoted the the manager wanted to bring in a younger supposed future England keeper who made mistake after mistake this guy came in toward the last few games at a time they had some of their best results. People moaned about Hladky now moaning about this guy before he’s even started. I’d suggest going on the sky sports page and talksport and go see all the Burnley fans who are gutted he’s going after the way he finished last season. Some on here dont deserve our manager or success tbh

Does seem like a big fee to me. I guess the principle that applies is if he is an upgrade on what we have had and we can afford what his current club wants then it's worth doing.
OleTheKitMan added 16:22 - Jul 13
Surprising! But 100% an upgrade on hladky. Muric is massive and decent with his feet too. Burnley would have gotten relegated with prime Buffon in the net so the fact he was relegated with them last season means nothing. I like this signing if it happens... COYB!

Having seen every minute of every game last season I don't understand the negative comments about Hladky, I really don't. I personally was very sad to see him go. PS Every goalkeeper makes errors by the way.

£8+2 million for this guy beggars belief. Reminds me of Bazunu at Soton, shot stopping is decent but prone to c0ck ups. Why not just get Cooper from Plymouth, don't think he'd cost even half of what Burnley wants for Muric!
Nutkins_Return added 17:14 - Jul 13
The state of these comments from people who clearly know nothing of him. Top keeper and good with his feet this would be quality. Burnley fans think he's worth £15-20 mil
Blue_In_Boston added 17:17 - Jul 13
He was awful at the end of last season for Burnley, mate who is a Burnley fan blames him for the final nails in their relegation.
TimmyH added 17:25 - Jul 13
Looked dodgy at times last season...made some clangers trying to pass out to defenders, same sort of style of how we played out from Goal but obviously with him under Kompany.

Trust the Process. Trust McKenna. Trust Ashton.

If I was passing out to the Burnley Defence I’d be worried to.
RegencyBlue added 18:08 - Jul 13
We are not laying out that sort of money for a back up keeper. If this goes through he’s number 1!
Nutkins_Return added 18:12 - Jul 13
Top keeper. The state of people slating this who clearly know nothing about him. He's massive, mobile and good with his feet. Really good shot stopper and great off his line. Get it done. He will be first choice.
