McKenna: Broadhead Out For a Couple of Months Minimum Saturday, 27th Jul 2024 18:17 Town boss Kieran McKenna has revealed that the Blues will be without forward Nathan Broadhead for two months, the Wales international having suffered an injury in one of the Blues’ early behind-closed-doors pre-season friendlies, and has given the lowdown on the other absentees.
Broadhead is understood to have suffered the knock in a game against Reading at Playford Road a week before the Austria training camp, which he missed.
“Nathan’s seen a specialist with a hamstring injury,” McKenna said. “There’s no surgery required, which in many ways is a positive. That means that the recover could hopefully be shorter, but it’s still going to be a couple of months minimum.”
McKenna admitted the former Everton man’s absence is a big blow: “Yes, for sure. He’s an important player for us. It’s a time where we are short of numbers of what we need for the season, so we don’t want to lose anyone. That’s a disappointing one for him and for us.”
Omari Hutchinson has also missed the Shakhtar and Fortuna matches but with a less severe problem.
“Omari has a little niggle, he’s better today, so we’re hoping that he’ll train and he’ll be involved with the games next weekend,” McKenna said.
Cameron Humphreys has been out with a thigh problem but isn’t going to be out for too long.
“Cameron Humphreys is probably a couple of weeks, I’ve not had an update in the last day or two,” the Blues manager added.
“He had an issue, not a huge issue but not a tiny one either, so he’s going to be another couple of weeks.”
Harry Clarke and Ali Al-Hamadi both under went surgery at the end of last season with the Iraqi international nearer to getting back with the squad.
“Harry further away, not back on the grass yet, so he’s further away,” McKenna continued. “Ali is back on the grass working individually, not with the team yet, hopefully it’s a short number of weeks.”
Defender Axel Tuanzebe hasn’t been involved for a couple of reasons but should be in Germany.
“He’s had a small physical issue but missed the trip with a family issue but a good family issue, so he’s been back in Manchester,” the Northern Irishman said.
“He’s now back with us again and hopefully will have some involvement in the games next week.”
Town suffered another injury blow today with Wes Burns picking up an ankle problem in the first half.
“Rolled his ankle in a collision, so we’ll have to check on how he is,” McKenna said.

Regardless of injuries we still need more bodies in.

Physical demands will be greater and more demanding in PL .so we really do need as many fully fit bodies as poss, and the forecast reinforcements will become essential . In MA and KM we must place our trust — they’ll be aware and impatient almost to get the set up established ! COYB

We must therefore sign another left sided number 10. We also need cover for Davis, cover for Morsy and Szmodics.

A bit of a blow, but being as positive as I can be about it, at least it happened when it did - not at the start of the season. All the best Broady, swift recovery lad.

Yes it's a big loss but he wasn't always a automatic choice last season and will have to improve to get much game time in the Premier league. Sorry Broadhead fan boys just stating the facts.

Seems to struggle with minor injury niggles or sickness I've noticed since he's been here...might struggle even more with the demands of the Premiership (less game but higher tempo).

Turning out to be a proper sicknote! All these injuries so close to the start of the season is worrying

I still find it strange when people say a full international player is not good enough for the premier league. I get he is always getting niggles but these players are not machines.

Broadhead is capable of playing, & scoring, in the Premier League, I have no about about that; but he does pick up injuries easily - didn't he miss his first game or 2 with us because he slept awkwardly in his new bed? But we see now why we have to be in for both Clarke & Szmodics.

Tampa bay blue So somebody who plays for the Faroe Islands is good enough to play Premier league football. Kiefer Moore can't get in the Bournemouth team but plays for Wales. Wales are very poor at the moment and wouldn't survive in the Premier league. Broadhead is a decent championship player but won't get many starts in the Premier league which is why McKenna is looking for better quality in that area.

Broadhead, Chaplin and Hutchinson were our top 3 goalscorers last season. These 3 need to be our starters until new options materialise. Wishing Broady a speedy recovery. Our left side definitely needs more new options & cover now.

the dust has settled after promotion, and some who thought we will take prem by scruff of the neck ,sobering up, we are NOT ready, we are going to be in for a rough ride and get some spankings, i will be happy for us just to survive this coming season and hopefully build from there.I HOPE fans will stick together and support the manager and players through what i believe will be tough times ahead .

Is Broadhead a bit injury prone? yes I think he is and is probably a fair point, is he good enough to maybe hold his own in the premier? again the answer for me is yes! I do remember when we last hit the premier, lots of the players who I thought wouldn't make the step up proved me wrong, some did very well, including Marcus Stewart being the highest goalscoring Englishman! so lets wait and see before we judge, some will surprise us for sure!
