McKenna: Hirst to See Specialists
Saturday, 3rd Aug 2024 15:32

Town boss Kieran McKenna has revealed striker George Hirst will see specialists regarding a knee problem in the week having not made the trip to Germany for this week’s mini-training camp.

The frontman picked up the knock in last week’s 2-1 pre-season defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf.

“George has got an issue, an issue from the game last weekend, so he’s not been with us this week,” McKenna said.

“He’s seeing some specialists and we can’t update on the definite timeline yet, but we’ll do so as soon as we can.”

Better news was that wideman Wes Burns returned to action as a sub in this afternoon’s 1-0 victory over Hoffenheim having rolled his ankle during the Fortuna match.

“He’s not trained until yesterday, a partial sessions really, so we haven’t had him and a couple of other players through the week so we have been really light in numbers,” McKenna added.

“But we managed to train with a bigger ground yesterday, Wes being part of that so he was able to get some minutes and no problems in the ankle, so that’s a positive.”

Meanwhile, U21s winger Nico Valentine is expected to be out for around a month with the dislocated shoulder he suffered in yesterday’s game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Valentine was stretchered off clearly in pain and went to hospital, missing the U21s flight home as a result.

KM and MA know what they need to do, so fans need to relax but it’s no secret we have a very thin squad now with injuries. Delap sounds like he could be a handful but this news isn’t good, at all! Aside from that, sounds like we did well today. 4-5 more signings before the window shuts and maybe 2 or 3 before Liverpool would be nice!! COYB!

Spot On fella, i watched the game today and thought all the lads did really well. I don't honestly believe Ladapo has PL quality Im afraid and Ive been expecting any additions such as Szmodics or Clarke up at that end of the field to signal his exit. Everyone else looked well up for it. MA and KM will have that firmly mapped out, in those two I trst
The two games ive watched show how valuable Harness still can be, and I was impressed with Taylor again. The keeper is gonna be a fans favorite I'm sure!

Two strikers required minimum Although Hirst and Delap may play in our system we need at least one striker who knows where the onion bag is we need a few in before window shuts.

Such a shame for George. Let’s hope it’s no too bad, but he does seem to struggle with injury.

Need at least two strikers now and one who know where the goal is.

Mmm - Hirst is turning out to be a bit of an expensive sick note!

Iaintaylorx: Ashton and McKenna might well know what they’ve got to go. The issue / problem, will achieving it. Clubs will know we are become more and more desperate to get players through the door, and shock amazement the price goes up. You only have to watch what Blackburn are doing. We have TWO weeks before ko and our squad is paper thin and we’re carrying injuries and some players have hardly contributed in this pre season.

Lol - love my -7
I therefore assume you all love working with people on the sick and you having to work harder for your sick note colleagues!
No play - no pay should be in all contracts across the PL given what they are paid!

Someone comparing a professional footballer to a workmate taking a sick day is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen.

Some silly comments here esp considering the club hasn’t given any detail.

Get a grip TubbyToast. George has played plenty for us, maybe over-played last season and probably then brought back a bit early....but the Boss felt he had to do that as the gap between him and anyone else in the no.9 slot was massive....even when we eventually got Moore in. The Club used to have a horrendous injury record which is massively improved now and am sure they will get this right and hopefully it is not months again....but of course we need reinforcements.

Lol. A few have their heads buried?? Or maybe they appreciate that getting players in isn’t simple. So many armchair CEOs here it’s untrue.

We need Signings, a few Sick Notes already in the Squad, especially up front - a totally different Ball Game Ahead !!
We’ve had time to make sure we hit the Ground Running - Points dropped early doors are not going to be easily clawed back, if at all.
No longer League 1 or Championship even - we’ve got to the Promised Land at long, long last - we HAVE to stay there !!!
