Town and Burnley in Foster Talks
Tuesday, 27th Aug 2024 22:35

Town are understood to be in advanced talks with Burnley regarding the loan signing of South African international striker Lyle Foster.

The Blues are looking to add another striker to their squad before Friday’s 11pm deadline with a loan move for Chelsea’s Armando Broja having come close to completion last week.

But the switch hit an obstacle when an achilles issue, which will keep the Albanian international sidelined for around seven weeks, became evident following his medical with discussions having continued since then. As reported earlier today, Broja has been back at Chelsea for scans as they assess the issue.

Now, according to Italian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Blues and Clarets are discussing the season-long loan of Foster, a deal which it’s claimed would include an obligation to buy for £25 million next summer, assuming Town stay up.

TWTD understands there is something in the interest as the Blues look for an alternative to Broja should that move be ruled out.

Soweto-born Foster started his career with the Orlando Pirates before moving to Europe and joining Monaco in 2019.

After a spell on loan in Belgium with Cercle Brugge, he joined Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães, before a return to Belgium and Westerlo initially on loan.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman joined Burnley for £11,000,000 in 2023 and has scored six goals in 33 starts and 11 sub appearances.

Let’s just wait and see what transpires. At the moment it’s all talk but at least we’re searching and I’m sure the boss is on the ball with this.Every day we appear we hear a different name in the frame so let’s just be patient and surely a rabbit will appear from the hat.Personally I’m just looking forward to tonight’s match first.

Struggling to see how his value has supposedly more than doubled when he hasn't exactly been a success. This is the least exciting striker link I have read so hope it isn't true however I obviously trust our scouts/manager/CEO implicitly so if we sign him then so be it.

Sends out desperation vibes to me . God knows who we will be linked with if nobody has signed by Friday morning.

I think a few Bristol City fans might be thinking "This sounds familiar". Hope not.

Could very well be a tactic to push price down for Borja. We'll know by Friday I guess.

Why not just play Szmodics in the striker role with Delap until Hirst is fit?...think we've gone a bit over the top with some of these signings.

Not good enough for the Premier league - simple as that!

Went to the Burnley forum, they are in total disbelief that we are willing to pay that kind of money for him. His market value should be much less now given how he has played for Burnley in the Premiership and Championship.

Based on comments on the Burnley forums, their fans are not bothered about him going

I can think of a host of strikers who'd be better options at this point (and would be cheaper). I feel that Foster would be only a marginal upgrade on Al-Hamadi and Ladapo.

Viktor Gyokeres- 26 years old. Top scorer in the Portuguese Superliga last season. Knows English football well and could be persuaded to move.

Patrick Bamford

Josh Sargeant

Mathys Tel

And the list goes on and on. I've been super impressed with most of our transfers so far, but I can't see why we'd pay so much for Foster.

Chelsea need rid of Broja but are being unrealistic in their terms. Is this guy just the scapegoat to panic Chelsea and force the Broja deal over the line?
