£500 Bid
£500 Bid "No Joke"
Wednesday, 26th Feb 2003 07:56

An unnamed Town fan says that his bid to the club of £500 for more than 7,000 shares was not a gag. Reports earlier in the week suggested the fan had made a joke bid for cash-strapped Town, however the supporter, who wishes to remain anonymous, says he is quite serious.

The bid for 7,365 shares, currently held in trust by the board, was made to Nick Dargan from administrators Deloitte and Touche, and as yet there has been no formal reply. The fan says he is not looking to take over the club or take on its debts.

However, he says he feels that a change is required at the top: "I have offered to buy Mr Sheepshanks' shares before because I do not think he is the right man to be the chairman.

"He and the board have led this club down the road to ruin. I have read we are £45 million in debt and, over the years, we have players sold from underneath us."

Meanwhile the club is continuing to work with Deloitte and Touche on the CVA which they put to creditors in the next few weeks. A number of different plans are being worked on based on various situations that the club may find itself in over the next five years.

The club is also working on plans for a second players' pay deferment. This latest 20% cut will be put to the squad via the PFA.

Earlier in the season players and off-field staff took deferments of 5%-10% which will be paid to them out of the second parachute payment in August.
