McKenna Named Manager of the Month
Friday, 10th Oct 2025 06:00

Town boss Kieran McKenna has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for September.

The Blues won two, the 5-0 hammering of Sheffield United and 2-1 victory over Portsmouth, and drew one, at Bristol City, 1-1, during the month to get their season firmly up and running.

“I am happy to accept the award on behalf of all the staff at the club and thank them for the hard work they have put in since the start of pre-season,” McKenna said.

“We are pleased with the progress we are making and have had some good results in recent weeks, but we are all aware we need to keep pushing over what is a long and challenging season in the Championship.”

McKenna beat Preston’s Paul Heckingbottom, Nathan Jones of Charlton and QPR’s Julien Stephan to claim the gong.

The Northern Irishman has previously won the Championship award on two previous occasions, in September 2023 and March 2024, as well as the League One equivalent twice, in March and April 2023.

Jaden Philogene was nominated in the Player of the Month category but missed out on the award to Hull City’s Oli McBurnie.

@armchairctituc how many Ipswich legends can you name who have won nothing at our club. The hype around McKenna is a joke. In his first season he couldn't move us even one place up the table in tier 3. In his second season he coudn't get us above a Plymouth team who have struggled ever since. In his 3rd season he couldn't get us above Leicester but promotion to the Prem was something he is rightly praised for. His 4th season wasn't great. He pandered to Omari, bought some very average playets and overall got more wrong than right. Here we are in season 5 and we are red hit favourites for the title which he may well win. That will put him perhaps in the same bracket as Burley ??? If he can then recruit players good enough to compete in the Prem rather than relying on the limited abilities or Morsy as our ckub captain then he may well reach a level above Burley but its embarrassing to read the comments of thise who put him in the same bracket as Bobby and Alf. We have just broken the record transfer fee for a Championship player, we have Championship golden boot winners and a bench the envy of the league but we sit mid table. There is a myth that players dramatically develop under him but who are on this list of dramatic improvements ?? I''m actually glad we have McKenna but anything other than winning the title this season is failure on his part.
