Town to Introduce Rules For No-Show Season Ticket Holders
Thursday, 27th Nov 2025 10:47

Town chairman and CEO Mark Ashton says the club will be introducing new rules to address non-attendance by season ticket holders, revealing that 6,000 fans have added their names to the waiting list launched last month.

Ashton says a significant number of the Blues’ season ticket holders, which number around 20,500, are absent from each match.

“It’s becoming a challenge for the first time. We haven’t really talked about this publicly before, but we’ve probably gone around 10 to 12 per cent no-show rate with season ticket holders,” Ashton told TownTV.

“For the first time this summer, we’ve introduced a waiting list for season tickets, we have 6,000 people on that waiting list and we’ve got to address this.

“We’ve got to look at who the no-shows are, how consistent they are and why they’re not coming.

“We are going to have to put some rules in place that if there are consistent no-shows of season ticket holders, we’ve got to put some rules and regulations in place because actually I’ve got 6,000 people here who want those tickets.

‘What we can’t do is therefore have empty seats on matchdays because that affects atmosphere, which affects performance, which affects everything that we’re trying to do.

“So, look out for that as we move through the rest of the season and into the summer because I think how we operate will change.

“I understand some people can’t come for a game, then we need to be in communication with those fans, they need to be in communication with us, but we want seats filled and we’ll look to address it moving forward. Remember, 6,000 now on a waiting list.”

He added: “Things happen, sometimes you can’t use it, but if you don’t want to lose it, use it, use our resale platform.”

I am one of those season ticket holders who has managed only one home game this season due to ongoing health issues. I'm 69 years old and have been supporting Town since I was 11 years old.
I have placed my ticket up for re-sale for all the other matches and only once didn't it re-sell, so the re-sale platform has been pretty effective for me, the club and the supporter that buys my ticket. Also the club is making more money from my seat by re-selling on a one off basis.
I hope the club doesn't penalise me for non attendance through ill health and hope to return to Portman Road before Christmas.

Valueless!

And now I'm going to be scrutinised for making sure I attend every game. Sad indictment of where the game is heading. Perhaps only apply to 'new' season ticket holders from the past 3 seasons?

Luckily this won't be a massive problem if we get established in the Premiersh*t as last season was the most boring of my life and have no intention of sticking around being charged more money for a vastly inferior 'rigged' product it's now impossible for us to ever be allowed to compete in thanks to Financial Unfair Play.

It' sa very very simple solution. If you can't go, lend your ticket to a friend. i have two ST and have a couple of longish holidays a year, so there are a couple of fixtures I know I can't go to. Mates are delighted to use them. Whenever my wife can't go I ask a friend to join me. They are always delighted to accept.
If I should find no-one wants to join me, I will use the resale platform.
It really isnt rocket science and the fellow fans deserve to be looked after.
If you can't go, it's very rare the reason is so short term you haven't time to ask a mate to go.
What could possibly be unjust about the club asking us to look after one another?

I think when demand for season tickets exceeds availability as now and in recent seasons an 'expectation' of a minimum level of attendance is not unreasonable if that level is fairly set. Club should also take into account whether the season ticket holder uses the resale system or not when they can't go. Absolutely right for the club to look at the "who and why" first before setting any new rules and regulations.

A very interesting article, but I do have to question the how genuine the waiting list figure of 6000 is, are there really that number? If so, they do not appear to be very enthusiastic supporters. The reason I say that is as a season ticket holder so far this season I have been unable to attend three games for health reasons. On each occasion I have used the resale facility, but only once has my seat been purchased. It may be interesting to note that the only time my seat was resold was for the Wrexham game (not on Sky) the other two games that did not sell were available live on Sky.

This is an interesting topic. I have been a season ticket holder for the last 26 years, I have bought my 12 year old grandson a membership for the last 3 seasons. Last season I managed to buy him 5 games ( I need the non season ticket seat next to me because of his age) on several of the other games it was occupied by someone from the far east who there’s no sign of this season as we are no longer in the premier league!!! This season I have been able to buy the seat for every game.
His name is on the waiting list but I suspect there is little chance of success.

Re the subject of giving your ticket to another person I was asked at the turnstile of the Charlton game if I had proof of identity ( my ticket is a 65+) in all my time of going to PR this was a first .

I'm not a season ticket holder but I believe if you give it to someone else, you have to inform the club (if i'm not mistaken).

Most fans on here get it; if you can't go then use the resale platform. Everyone wins. It would be very different if they were penalising fans for not attending and they hadn't provided a platform to handle your spare ticket issue. This is discrimination, fans who struggle to get tickets (myself) would argue it's unfair that seats don't get used when we're not able to get access.

I've also got an old gits season ticket and I've noticed they get a red message on the screen to check when they scan my ticket. You should take it as a compliment December 1963 that you don't look your age.

my take on this is that some people may be hanging on to a season ticket in the hope we are promoted again. then they will return not because they want to see us but to see the teams who they support, i happen to know this is case with one. i had to queue for hours last season to get tickets, oh for the days of pay on the gate 38000 leeds 35000 liverpool and the ground was a lot smaller then.

Quite a few people on here mention giving their ST to friends etc. l stand to be corrected but lm pretty that’s contrary to current rules. Anyway you if you put your ST upf for resale you get back one 23rd of your ST price, less an admin fee. I’m pretty sure that the resale price is more than that. I stand to be corrected.

G-force. Maybe I'm wrong and the club is going to refund ME for all the games I was unable to attend over the past quarter century that I'd paid for? I have the Futbology app so will be happy for them to cross-reference with their own record?

Pleased someone gets it.

I've used the club resale site twice this season for my 2 season tickets as unexpectedly have been unable to go.

I have to say, I can't fault the club for the way they have speedily dealt with the resale. Yes, I lost a few quid and the yes, the club made a few more quid but I'm happy with that.

Worth doing all round as everybody benefits including giving people who can't normally get a ticket, the chance to watch a game in person.

Just to clarify. I have used the resale platform for 2 out of 3 games, I have missed this year. But Ashton is suggesting not using ticket could be a reason for "action". He needs to think this one through. I missed the other one because my RTherapy Dog died 1 hour before ko. If you are a dog lover you will get why I didn't turn up. I used to travel however long from Swindon for every home game. Then suffer the Keane & co years. Where were that 6000 then? Now if I miss a few games, I might need a "sick note". Rethink this one, Ashton and keep up the good work on the stadium and culture building.

I think the fear about these statements is that Ipswich will measure you and potentially take away your season ticket if YOU do not attend too many times. Big clubs want to sell tickets at higher prices than Season ticket prices- Liverpools new development created 6000 new home seats and only 1000 season tickets that's 5000 corporate, off site meal + ticket+ programme for £150+ - that's the fear and that's probably the real reason for the Cobbled Stand Mk2.
If you were at Barnsley away under Paul jewell watching Nathan Ellington with one leg play left mid - sorry mate that's nice but you not as important as this guy with a big wallet.
The away Match system could be better - firstly it needs to be more open on the number of fans on 43 points etc that way you can see where you are in the queue - this would mean you don't buy just for the sake of it to get a point - if you know the cut off for Norwich away is likely to be 40 points and you cant get to Hull away you know you can miss the game don't buy the ticket and it is available for others. Secondly making a system where you have to take 3 Fridays off work so you can get a ticket to Norwich away should not be part of the deal in supporting a club - its good for those not working and that typically means those over 65 who will have the cash, if Ashton was part of the decision making system in allowing Friday, Thursday , Saturday 12.30 Sunday 12.00 KOs he should reflect that in any fan loyalty policy.
When are the next SKY Fixture movements announced ?

If you cant get to the match then put your ST up for resale.

You win because you get your money back.
The Club wins because they sell the ticket and have a full stadium
Other supporters benefit because they can get to a match.

VanDussen did you actually read the article?
There's absolutely no reason why you would suffer under this , in fact you might make some money back.
