Wycombe Linked With Humphreys Move
Sunday, 4th Jan 2026 19:13

Wycombe Wanderers are reportedly interested in a reunion with former loanee Cameron Humphreys during January.

Humphreys enjoyed a very successful loan spell with the League One side last season, winning their Player of the Year award.

The 22-year-old has rarely featured for the Blues this term, making three brief Championship sub appearances in addition to his only start in the Carabao Cup, and manager Kieran McKenna recently said he will consider sending the midfielder and Elkan Baggott out on loan this month.

According to the Bucks Free Press, the Chairboys, who are 10th in their division, could move to bring Humphreys back to Adams Park as they look to boost their midfield options for the second half of the campaign.

Town may prefer to look to send Humphreys out on loan to a lower-placed Championship club rather than for another spell in League One.

Oxford United could also be among those to show interest with Scott Mitchell, who worked with Humphreys in the Town academy and was behind his move to Wycombe, now the Yellows’ head of recruitment.

Will be a BIG shame if Cam does leave, but id fully understand it if he did. He's just not getting a look in is he.
I was told a few weeks ago he'd asked to leave the club. Not sure if true or not. But if he does leave, "good luck Cam". A really talented player in my humble view....

He needs a championship loan if he’s going out. Clearly he’s too good for league one and personally think he has been worthy of more mins for us this season.

Monkey - hows he clearly to good for league 1? One season at Wycombe wanders and no championship teams in for him shows otherwise

I don't blame them for wanting him back where we was so successful. Excellent player who is no where near our first team sadly

Good move for all concerned. We need squad places. Striker urgent

Poor lad, he should be sold to the highest bidder, because he never gets a
game here. Never been given a chance.

He's a talent but it's obvious he's never going to start .....him , Elkan, Harry Clarke should be sold ..... otherwise they're just going to fester in the reserves .

I have no idea why we haven’t given him more of a chance. It’s bizarre imho. He’s never let us down in any game he has played. Same goes for Elkan : he always looked decent in pre seasons. And assuming Harry is fit again, he’s as good as some others in the squad. Ben J also seems to be out in the cold.

Keiran certainly does have his go-to favourites. If you’re in your in; and vice versa. Cam’s Elkan’s Harry’s and Ben’s problems seems to be that we didn’t pay money for them so we don’t feel obliged to pick them to make a point or save face.

PhuketPete: we did in fact pay an undisclosed fee for Harry Clarke

I'd like to see Humphreys, Baggott and Johnson all given a run in the team - I suspect they might prove more effective than some of the current incumbents, and they've certainly been unlucky not to be picked much more often. But much as we all like to play Fantasy Ipswich, and shake our heads over some real-life team selections, it's hard to argue too hard against Kieran's choices when you look at the table, especially when you consider how poor we were early in the season.

The only way to get more mins is to drop Cajuste or Taylor
If Town make the Prem would Humphrey be good enough or would Town prefer Cajuste and Taylor who have had a season in the Championship and Premier League.

Can see him being sold end of the season if Town go up….Shame as a new ce little player who has not let Town down……but that’s how football goes these days

Im 100% with Cookieboy and Cartman, we have to constantly look to strengthen the squad, window on window. It's survival of the fittest, and if Humphreys (same for Baggott H Clarke and Johnson) aren't good enough to force their way into the team over those who play, then they must be sacrificed to make room for 4 better players who can come in and add further strength and make us better.

There is zero room for sentiment here, we are playing for £175m in prize money next season if we go up again, we must be ruthless. We are in an unrivalled financial position this window because we still have £25m of the profit from the summer, plus the allowable FFP losses, and backers who do not want to be in this division a minute longer than they have to.

I don't want to sound crass, but this is a revolving version of the weakest link, and until our Cat 1 academy matures and produces a start or two of the future, it will always be the case.

Of course we'd all love some home-grown talent to make it into the first team, but the bare fact is that places are limited and there just isn't room for everyone.

Also Cat one will be a source of income like Man City did with Delap

Agree Bazza8564 but with so many players giving under-par performances through to this point in the season, it does seem that maybe it is not a level playing field as per Woolfy. And to be fair, why should it be a level playing field? If we have spent money on players then Mackenna will be looking to ensure we grow their value...definitely not sat them off and potentially write off chunks of transfer fees. Mckenna is an intelligent Manager who understands these responsibilities and has to juggle that with putting out the best potential 11. I think he is doing a good job but the more players we have the harder that job becomes and the harder for a Cam to get into the 11....fact.

Portman, yes agreed, although what we see and "hope" to see with some players is very different from what Kieran and his team see 7 days a week. When we talk about the players I advocate moving on, does Baggott get a shot ahead of Kipre and Greaves? Or Humphreys ahead of Matusiwa? We will se if Burns gets picked ahead of McAteer, (a player I actually think will grow into a good signing despite the boo boys) because KM will see and develop long term potential in a 22 year old over a 31 year old.

What I want to see is (and it's a shame it can't happen this season on the 2 club rule) a player like Harvey Elliot putting pressure on Cajuste from above, a player of the calibre of Conor Bradley (just an example) putting pressure on Darnel Furlong, and across the squad as we incrementally uplift the whole squad over another 2-3 years.

We don't have the ability yet to sign the £60m players for a number of reasons, but we now have strong foundations on which to build, and a manager who is realistic enough not to yield to sentiment over being ruthless and a board to back him.

Some people won't like it, but Wolfy and Nathan left for a reason, the club were right not to yield to Burgess' demand for a 3 year deal at 30 and Conor knew what he would have faced here and decided to play elsewhere.

Tough old game, but it's business

I’m a bit suspicious about a player signing for the club around the same time his son signs hahaha!!!

Phukelpete. We paid 1M+ for Clarke, he just is not good enough, unfortunately. As for your ludicrous remarks about favourites do you actually think Humphrers is better than Cajuste, Matusiwa, etc or Baggot is better than Kipré or O'Shea.

armchaircritic59 added 18:54 - Jan 5
It is obvious KM doesn't see either CH or EB as first team material, if he did they'd be playing in it. To be fair to what are still young men, I believe they should be let go to pursue a career where they are wanted and can play regularly.

Lightningboy added 19:34 - Jan 5
Really really daft that he's not getting much more game time here - then again he didn't cost £15m - great little player.

TrueBlueSince72 added 21:44 - Jan 5
This is the challenge with having a 25-man squad with the express aim of winning a place back in the PL - when there are only 11 positions on the pitch and 9 slots on the bench.
Cam is a great young player, but as others have said does not yet warrant a start ahead of Matusiwa, Cajuste, Taylor or Nunez.
Should be allowed out on loan again to rip it up elsewhere and either force his way to a move or show us what we are not getting the chance to see.
