Ex-Blues Coach Grant Sacked By Huddersfield
Saturday, 17th Jan 2026 21:58

Huddersfield Town have sacked former Blues first-team coach Lee Grant with former Blues academy duo Liam Manning and Chris Hogg being lined up to take over.

The 42-year-old left the Blues to take charge of the Terriers in May last year but after run which has seen the League One side win only three of their last 12, including a 3-1 loss at Burton Albion today, he has been relieved of his duties.

Despite that run, the West Yorkshiremen, for whom on-loan Blues midfielder Cameron Humphreys made his second appearance against the Brewers, are sixth in the table.

A statement on the official Huddersfield website reads: “The decision was made following Saturday afternoon’s loss at Burton Albion, with the result extending a poor run of form that has seen the club victorious just three times in our last 12 Sky Bet League One fixtures.

Terriers owner and chairman Kevin Nagle said: “Entering this season with renewed optimism and hope having proactively reshaped our first team throughout the summer, we were clear about not only our ambitions but how we wanted to achieve them, and the type of team on the pitch we wanted to enjoy alongside our supporters.

“Sadly, on current form, none of those objectives are being met and with just under half of the season remaining, we feel no other option but to make a change to put the side back on track.

“I would like to thank Lee for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best for his future career.

“Our previously stated aims and desires for the season remain the same, and we will be making a change with those ambitions still firmly in mind.”

Grant, who was in charge of Huddersfield for only 36 matches, winning 15, drawing eight and losing 13, joined the Blues in May 2022 after hanging up his gloves having ended his career at Manchester United.

We understand another boss with Blues connections, former Town academy coach and midfielder Manning, is in line to take over with Hogg again set to be his assistant.

The duo left Norwich City following a short spell in November having previously been at Bristol City.

So they sack Grant but make their situation worse by appointing Manning? Out of the frying pan into the fire, eh?!?!?

Liam Manning is a good manager? Just had a rough time at the Canaries.

I wonder if we'd try and get Lee back at a coach, as seem to do very well for us in that role?

Seems very harsh, they are currently in 6th place, hardly a failure.
Hope he proves them wrong elsewhere.

The state of football today.
Hopefully he'll come back in some capacity: a top pro

Isn't it strange, club owners are the ones who are responsible for bringing the so called " failures " into clubs, but they never carry the can. The buck stops elsewhere. It's about time they stood up and be counted. Some hope!

Armchair they are standing uo and being counted! The owner is bankrolling the club out of his own pocket! He wants automatic promotion and obviously feels grant aint doing it!
As for grant dont feel to bad for him as his getting his 3year contract paid up in full when his only done 6 months!

As for basa1234 whatevere! Get him back here for what? To get rid of grants replacement here at ipswich and then for grant to leave again when another job offer comes in?

Manning will do a good job at Huddersfield but Grant losing his job? Just ridiculous but these kind of decisions seem to be so common now it’s normalising stupidity. Fans are not blameless because social media and stadiums are full of idiots calling for managers heads at the drop of a hat. I’d love to see grant come back to PR where he was appreciated.

Obviously an outrageous decision to sack a young manager halfway through his first season with the team in the play off places, but 15 managers in the last 7 years suggests the problem might lie elsewhere at the club, not with Lee Grant. Hope Huddersfield get exactly what they deserve and Grant gets the good job that he deserves too.

Churchmans, we aren't limited to the number of coaches we can have, and it seems plain to a lot of us on here think he would be an asset back at the club. Apart from you.....

Churchmans, I'm not privvy to the going ons at Huddersfield, so if what you say about the owner is correct, than thanks for putting me right. Actually I just checked, I did know, totally forgot, must be my age! However if he thinks just chucking money at it is an instant solution, he's finding out something different, and he wouldn't be among the first few hundred. I salute him for putting his money where his mouth is, unfortunately it appears he's putting it in the wrong places. Not surprising as he knows naff all about football, and would be better following a similar model to the one we have here. Put people in place who know what they're doing. I certainly don't feel bad for Lee Grant, anyone who goes into football management knows it's a revolving door, and at higher levels of the game, exceedingly well paid. Some can cut it, others can't.

I would point out to those of you assuming Grant got all of his contract paid up, that’s probably not the case. As managerial sackings have become more regular contracts have reflected this. I very much doubt many managers have such a guarantee these days and know
For a fact most don’t. He will have got a pay off but nothing like the remainder of his contract.
