Boatswain Leaves Town For Gateshead
Wednesday, 25th Feb 2026 19:07

U21s striker Ashley Boatswain has joined National League Gateshead on a permanent deal.

Colchester-born Boatswain has agreed a contract which runs to the end of the 2026/27 season with the National League’s second-bottom side having moved on a free transfer.

The 20-year-old had spells on loan with Bury Town, Leiston, AFC Fylde and this season with Woking.

Although he never made the first team while at Town, Boatswain became the first Blues player to win senior international caps with Montserrat, eight in total.

I was having a bit of fun with Benjis post in regards to Adrian Mole and Sharon Bott … meant absolutely nothing in regards to Master Boatswain … It could have been a post about Lionel Messi.
So no offence meant to Ashley or on behalf of him to you… and btw horry … I played for the town … just not in real life.. in my dreams.

Good luck Ashley, loads of development and a decent football career still potentially ahead of you.

Shame to see this lad leave.

You always hope that they could break into the first team and want these players to do well.

Players like this should be given a chance within the Club - it doesn’t happen anymore, but was always the way to Club success in years gone by.

He was probably very unlikely to make the grade here. His level is likely to be below where we want to be. But good luck to him. I don’t know if Gateshead are 100% full time pro outfit, but if you look at the money being spent in National League South (Chelmsford play at this level and Woidy is considered a star there), he will get his chance to move on up. Very unfortunate but most National League sides would beat our under 21's on pure physicality. I wish him well. Proper man's football awaits.
