Ashton 'Facing FA Chant Investigation'
Friday, 8th May 2026 11:42

Town chairman and CEO Mark Ashton is reportedly the subject of an FA investigation following the Blues’ promotion celebrations at the weekend.

Ashton was filmed joining in fans’ chants regarding former Norwich City co-owner Delia Smith while on a terrace at Isaacs on the Quay alongside skipper Dara O’Shea, although video footage indicates both conspicuously avoided directly referencing the 84-year-old TV chef.

According to the Norwich-based Eastern Daily Press, the 54-year-old is now being investigated to assess whether he breached FA rule E3.1: “A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.”

Town are not commenting, while it’s not known whether O’Shea may face a similar probe.

blues1 - watched the video, he definitely does sing it. O'Shea on the other hand, does not.

I think my problem is the selective nature of when he represents 'us' as a club. The Reform debacle still wrangles (i'd suggest the majority of those fans who are unbothered by it are that way inclined, but ultimately it's a divisive subject that no-one wanted). Then this incident where his chanting is to infer that he's 'one of us'. The two actions don't align.

When you see Coventry's owner and how he celebrated, representing Coventry in the best way, that's the expectation I would have.

Are they going to investigate Henandez for saying he would break Nunez??

This is madness? It's the supporters who are singing the anti-Delia stuff, and DO'S and MA very clearly DON'T join in with that part of it. It's entirely possible that they didn't actually know what was coming anyway; it's not a chant I've heard very often. What were they supposed to do? Somehow stop the crowd singing? Walk off the balcony amidst a celbration?
If MA had lead a chorus of "There's a circus in the Town", I would have said he was wrong, but he's in an impossible position here, and it's in no way either of their faults.

Bearing in mind all that Ed Sheeran has done for us over the years especially in the rough times, perhaps Mark Ashton can direct some ire towards his rivals in the male, singer-songwriter department: Lewis Capaldi, Noah Kahan...

My mates over in Bristol often told me that he's a classless a**hole. In recent times he's certainly lived up to that claim. I guess it's just another sign of the decline in standards right through the human race. I can't imagine Matt Holland getting involved in such degenerate banter !!

Applying this rationale, I assume George Burley is in fact not a "sad Scottish B*****d with a s**t football team?!

MA is “reportedly” the subject of an FA investigation. for crying out loud, why is this unsubstantiated non-story even on here at all until such time there is any evidence that it’s true?

Get out of our club Ashton. Wouldn't trust you to run a regional branch of a paper merchant. Kieran Mckenna + Bournemouth, Brighton, or Brentford's CEO = much more success. We're being held back by this clown.

I like MA but he seems to be going through a mid-life crisis. Needs to reform his behaviour

johnwarksshorts - Ashton is a business man he does not bleed any club unless it's successful and paying him well, if we began to fail and he had a better offer you wouldn't see him for dust! Darkhorse nailed it, what business as a single "leader" who effectively marks his own homework? Due diligence needs to be put in place to ensure we don't have a single point of failure.

Good grief, not sure what the benchmark is for success for some. Doing pretty well as a club imo. Need to remember this is a football forum, not to be influenced by political persuasion!

Lets imagine for a second that he's a fan too...

Yes, he is chairman etc, but in that moment, he was a fan, he wasnt at work, he was being a fan... We're not moaning about other fans are we.
I get it, he has responsibility s but give him a break, he got caught up in the moment

Yeah, I'm calling bullshit on this "investigation". Just the scum press trying to piss on our parade with their faux outrage.

What a load of old rubbish started by the Norwich based Eastern Daily Press. Just phoned up the Fa and there is no such action pending of any sort. i was under the balcony at the time the video was taken without persmission and nothing of the sort was said about any Smith BBC or Norwich. i was also present at the Christchurch Park family get together. SOUR GRAPES FROM THE SCUM!

Hypocrisy from Norwich. Front page of the EDP this week described us as Ips**t within the first sentence of their headline story!

blueoutlook, we live in what as known as an " outrage society " these days. People choose and it is a choice, to be outraged about almost anything. Aside from that, what I must be missing is what on earth has it got do with the EFL, maybe they're outraged too? It's a wonder we're not all buried under one gigantic snowdrift!

Well done Robert Garret for calling the FA to confirm that there is currently no such “investigation”. Too bad Twtd didn’t bother to fact check before reporting this “news”.

as the club I have been supporting for over 45 years. That chant is well past its use by date… We are a lot better than that, surely

Seems plenty of people here have forgiven Ashton for treating fans as idiots and his lies after promotion. Even if we win the PL next season it still doesn’t change the fact that he is a dishonest, egoistic and shameless weasel of a man
