I wouldn't object to this, he scores goals from the bench and would give us something a bit different. It's not a long term plan but when your only only objective is to survive this season a short term stop gap makes sense.

Rimsy, as you say, if backup to the main striker, it would be a no brainer, not as the main striker though!

Thought we might go for him if the Hammers went down, okay for a back up - he's still got that poachers instinct but doesn't bring that much elsewhere in his game.

miltonsnephew, I've had a look at what I can find on the guy. Your stats re age and height are correct. Far from shabby goal return to matches played over the past 3 years, but absolutely impossible to equate that form with the PL, except to say it's some way below it. That doesn't necessarily make it a no goer, but one I'd leave up to recruitment!

34?...desperation signing in my opinion. OK as a sub but not as a starter unless injuries to other players.

We've been desperate for a striker pretty much every window for the last 3 seasons and haven't been able to get one as they are in short supply. Experienced prem strikers like wilson aren't easy to find so let's get this done. As others have said would ideally be back up but the sooner we sign ANY striker the better. We ideally need 3 but can't see it happening.... 2 will do.

And that’s ‘normal’ it’s frighteningly good business, that’s how you build a club, ID the right talent at the right price. Not easy, but very doable.

darkhorse28, let's all just wait and see what happens before we hand out either bouquets or brickbats, re recruitment. I won't be shy of either and I'm guessing you won't either, but I'm not judging when there's nothing to judge till the window gets going.

As for Wilson, yes he's 34, yes he has a past history of injuries and yes they weren't a problem during the 2nd half of last season and yes, he had a very good scoring record during that time. No way should he be anywhere near the no 1 striking position, but someone off the bench when necessary wouldn't be the worst choice we could make. If we can find someone as good and several years younger, even better, but we'll see.

Seems the ageist comments are rearing their heads again. Tell that to Messi and Ronaldo, going to the world cup yet again. I'm not talking about quality but longevity. If you're good enough, you're old enough or young enough, 18 or 38.

Wilson has been a great Pl striker, but every year counts, and if he only started 11 games last season, this is not what we need. We need strikers between 21-26 years of age, who are going to improve. I really hope we go in for Nicolo Tresoldi at Brugges, who might be out of reach, but with the money we have we should be trying for players at this level, not old has beens with dodgy fitness levels and sky high wages.

At 34 he’s a risk in my opinion. I’d be surprised if we actually make an offer. Kebbal on the other hand sounds like a good prospect, but are these just more rumours? Who knows.
