Ex-Blues Loanee Chalobah Added to England Squad

Former Blues loanee Trevoh Chalobah has been called into the England World Cup squad as a late replacement for Tino Livramento, who has suffered an injury.

Chalobah, 26, was on loan with Town from Chelsea during the 2018/19 season, making 36 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring twice.

Newcastle full-back Livramento suffered a calf injury in training on Sunday which has ended his finals before they had got going with England getting their group campaign under way tomorrow.

“Arrangements are now being made for the Chelsea defender to make the journey to the team's base camp in Kansas City, while the rest of the squad will head to Dallas, Texas for the Three Lions' opening group fixture against Croatia on Wednesday,” an FA statement reads.

“FIFA regulations allow participating teams to replace an outfield player up to 24 hours before their opening fixture.”

I do find this a staggering selection.
Hell, I couldn't believe he was retained and used by Chelsea after he'd been with us and another loan or two.
When he was with us he was very poor Indeed, I thought he didn't even know how to kick a football, even though he was deemed to be a professional footballer. I think only the Arsenal lad Karbassion (? Spelling) might have been poorer.
But good luck to the fella....he's earned a heck of a lot of money by being who and what he is, and represented his country, so maybe it's me that's got things wrong (& he must have had some very good ld coaches along the way too).

Lennie added 17:19 - Jun 16 I thought he was classy with us … unlike some of our squad in those days … played deep central midfield… had time on and off the ball … good brain but was young and needed gametime with experienced players around him … exactly why he was sent out on loan … turned out to be a decent defender… good luck to him and I hope he gets a bit of game time

I watched a few games and my take on it was that he wasn't trusted at centre-half as he made quite a few mistakes which is why he was then put in midfield. I thought he was way off what was required and I still recall how poorly he kicked a football if it wasn't just a short pass with his instep. We didn't exactly have a strong team or squad back then so I guess silky skills and passing wasn't a priority.
I agree on the seven years ago is irrelevant, just commenting on the fact I didn't rate him, and still find it a surprise he's done so well.
His brother Nathaniel was the one highly rated at that time.

How on earth is Chalobah still around Chelsea and to be even in for a sniff at the national team?

What do people actually see and rate him in? He's not an awful player, but how and why do people think he's heading to the top? He looks so out of place in the Chelsea squad and goes missing in big games?
