Lille: No Approach For Alexsandro
Friday, 3rd Jul 2026 17:50

Ligue 1 Lille have dismissed claims that the Blues have made an approach for Brazilian international central defender Alexsandro.

On Monday, Fabrizio Romano claimed Town had made contact with Les Dogues and that talks were under way regarding a potential move for €30 million (£26 million).

However, Lille told L’Equipe that there had been no approach from anyone regarding the 26-year-old and that in any case they have no plans to sell.

“No club has contacted us,” Lille insisted. “We count on Alexsandro, we are counting on Alexsandro, so it is not an issue.”

Rio de Janeiro-born centre-half Alexsandro left his home country to join Praiense in the Portugusese third tier in 2019.

A year later he moved on to Amora in the same division, before he stepped up a tier to Chaves in June 2021.

The 6ft 2in tall central defender joined Lille for €2 million (£1.7 million) in July 2022 and has now made more than 100 appearances for the club.

Alexsandro, who is contracted until the summer of 2028, received his first international call-up a year ago and has now won three caps, but is not in the Brazilian World Cup squad, injury having limited him to 11 appearances in all competitions during 2025/26.

The central defender was one of two Brazilians linked along with Toulouse striker Emersonn.

We understand that there is Blues interest in the 21-year-old, who was the subject of a rebuffed £17.3 million bid from Hull City earlier in the week.

Any one really surprised I don't see us paying 30 million for a centre back.

I would be surprised at £30M for a centre back too. Considering the need for a number one striker and a back up is far greater, what on earth would we be prepared to pay for those together if we shelled out that for a CB? I'll bet if someone knocked on Lille's door with £30M in readies, he'd be gone quicker than a snowball in the desert, whatever they may officially say. Few French clubs would be in a position to turn that down for a central defender, unless they knew they had a superstar on their hands.

Armchair my friend, £30m represents about 12% of our available kitty over the next two windows, we will bring in 9 players maybe even more, some on loan, this is the type we need
Fabrizio is rarely wrong

Bazza, if indeed we have around £240M that we are allowed to spend in that time frame, then I would agree, £30M is seen in a different light. My guesstimate was somewhat less than that, but if that's the ball park figure, I'm not complaining, as long as it's spent wisely!

2 top quality strikers (not one who scored just two in sixty appearances) and absolute must plus a keeper.

That said we need excellent players all over the pitch. Atherton sooner the better.

Why you all banging on about £30m It's not, it's €30m, which is quite different, £4m different from £30m to be exact.

For that price I'd take Lloyd Kelly over him. Admittedly am not too familiar with him though. Kelly's experience in the prem clinches it for me.

100% we would spend 30m on a CB. Arguably one of the most important positions on the pitch and whilst Greaves and Kipre are good back up, we need better.

Not sure when to expect our first signing, things are always slow in a wc year, but we need bodies in asap...

Yann Sommer has just become a free agent. Never know we could have a Xhaka signing.

Wishful thinking I know

People talk about the value to be had in France, then discuss someone whose price seems to have gone up 1400% in four years. That doesn't sound good value.

WhiteVanMan added 22:31 - Jul 3
Agreed Alberto.Lets look for those gems as Brighton do,I can remember a young dreadlocked Dutchman who we were interested in but unable to sign as we already had two Dutch players. Not to mention Civelli.
Having said that we need statement signings and soon if we are going to have any chance of staying up.Have to wonder if the ambition is really there or if we are just seeking to be a yo yo club kept solvent by parachute payments

paulc, you're quite correct, it is stated at £30M Euro, which is £26M in pounds give or take. The difference is small change found down the back of the sofa by PL standards. Mind you, if we spent the £26M and then used the saved £4M to find a bargain, I wouldn't complain!

All we’ve had is fictitious stories (lies, in layman terrms) to raise hopes thus. far
I wonder if Farage was appointed Head of Recruitment ? - and he signed for his 12th job !!

blueboy1981, I sincerely hope he wasn't, or we'll end up with a squad of 25 right wingers, and ones that like to hug the touchline only as they're far right :)
