Town Agree Emersonn Fee

Town have agreed a deal with Toulouse for Brazilian striker Emersonn.

TWTD confirmed over the weekend that the Blues were interested in the 21-year-old, who had been linked earlier in the week.

Yesterday, it was reported that Town had lodged a bid and that offer has now been accepted with the player now travelling to Portman Road for a medical and to complete the formalities on his switch.

Sky Sports reports that the deal is a €28 million (£24 million) - a new record fee for the Blues - plus €3 million (£2.6 million) in add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Former Brazil U15 international Emersonn, who is 6ft 1in tall, started his career with Athletico Paranaense in his home country before moving on to Turkish side Göztepe in January 2025.

That spell led to his move to his current club in Ligue 1 on deadline day last summer for around €3 million (£2.6 million) and last season he scored seven goals in 31 appearances in all competitions, picking up three assists.

In May, Emersonn - full name Emersonn Correia da Silva - came off the bench to score in a 2-1 defeat to new Blues manager Gary O’Neil’s Strasbourg.

Emersonn, who was recently the subject of a rebuffed bid from Hull City, will become the first Brazilian to play for Town if the move is confirmed.

Elsewhere, another Blues target, West Ham’s Callum Wilson, is reported to be close to joining Brentford on a one-year deal.

Bazza8564. I agree, Delap played really well for the first half of the Prem season, but got played too much (Hirst being injured so it was 70-80 mins instead of 60 odd), had a few spells out with niggles of his own, and seemed to just ram into people, give away a free kick and get a yellow card every game.
But to begin with his control, power, speed, the way he got between the opponent and the ball so often when just about getting a toe to the ball to gain control was awesome in those first few months.
But this guy should be hungry, he's by all accounts quite quick and strong, and he will have seen the likes of Cunha (attitude seems to have improved at Man Utd) & Richarlison (terrible player and attitude) get big money moves and international caps by getting to the English Prem. Fingers crossed he is as eager and committed to the cause.

Still young, but feels somewhat similar to Hirst in many ways. Still, the powers that be think there's mileage so I'll support 100% if he does sign, & hope my thoughts are way off the mark.

Anyone upset by the profit Toulouse are making needs to wake up. This is called successful player trading. Our aim will be for him to do well and at some point he will be sold for a large profit. That’s how teams who don’t have the revenue of the big teams survive in the prem. The only teams who turn down huge profits on players are the ones at the very top. We’ve had success but spending £100m plus a season is only sustainable long term if we also sell big. Most teams spend net £20-£30m a season in the prem on transfers other than the big boys. Wolves in O’neils last season had multiple big country internationals and players who after he left went for big fees to pay for the £200 odd million they’d spent in the previous two years. That’s how it works.

The fact Toulouse can unearth talent at 3m and sell a year later for 25m shows how far behind we slipped in recruitment. Let’s hope recent additions to that department have changed the dynamic.

As to talk of making a large trading profit on him down the line. We’re already in for £27m plus there is a sell-on clause. Unless he becomes worth £60m+ there is no chance this nets us the sort of £20m profit that Toulouse made. So my guess is this deal is more of a development move with hope of on-pitch payback than a trading punt. Same with Egeli.

Emersonn had 7 goals and 3 assists last season, and is a similar age to when we sold Omari, so could be good business (if he does the business).
