Blues Target Wilson Joins Brentford

Brentford have confirmed the signing of Blues target Callum Wilson on a one-year deal.

TWTD revealed a month ago that Wilson, 34, was on Town’s summer wishlist having been previously looked at in January with his time at West Ham coming to an end this summer.

However, the former England international subsequently began talks with the Bees and the West Londoners have now confirmed his signing.

“Callum is someone that everyone will be familiar with; he has been a Premier League goalscorer for such a long time,” Brentford head coach and one-time Blues loanee Keith Andrews said.

“He gives us more options in that area of the pitch, and will help Igor Thiago and Kaye Furo with the experience that he has.

“He’s just got that nous to score goals, as well as that experience around the training ground. This is another really good signing for us.”

Yesterday, Town confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Brazilian Emersonn from Toulouse for a new club record fee of an £24 million, however, it seems certain a more experienced striker will be high up on the list of targets ahead of the return to the Premier League.

We need to be buying young talent, developing and selling on as per Brighton and Bournemouth the only way we can prosper as a football club in the big boys league

@Woodbridgian Getting way ahead of yourself there. The rhetoric on 'business model' (I think you mean transfer model) coming out of the club is signing premier league experience and athletic overseas undiscovered diamonds, which we did not so during our last prem campaign and suffered for it

No one is talking about what you describe and is something that can only really happen once established in the prem, like ethe clubs you mention

bucket99 added 18:32 - Jul 9 Good, I'm pleased about this. His agent's highlights reel probably looks good, but he misses far too many imho. It would only have been a short-term fix anyway. He was such a diver when Bournemouth went up to the PL as well. Not so much when VAR's about though. :-)

My issue with him would have been whether he was capable of playing enough minutes without injury breakdowns. Good player but he’s had plenty of injury issues over the last 6 years. At Newcastle he only started 64 games in five seasons and 20
sub appearances that’s averaging 16 appearances a season. 21 of his 32 appearances last year were off the bench. He would also have wanted a big wage. If we are going to sign a more experienced striker we need one who if needed can start as often as we want.

Long term that may well be our model, but first we need some old hands with experience to keep us there and build towards that. Relegated teams don't sell players for big profits, they get cherry picked for little reward.

Bazza8564 added 19:23 - Jul 14 I cannot believe he was a summer target, my understanding is that we looked at him in January when in the championship, but this guys is a 20 minute player tops. With Hirst, Emersonn and if Akpom stays, where does ths guy fit in?
