Palacios Town Move 'Out of the Question'
Monday, 3rd Aug 2026 13:42

Argentina international Exequiel Palacios won’t be joining the Blues, according to a report in Germany.

Over the weekend, Fabrizio Romano claimed the 27-year-old is set to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer with Town and RB Leipzig interested.

According to Bild, Palacios is looking for a move and the Blues made an enquiry but joining Town is said to be “out of the question” as the 2022 World Cup winner sees himself at a “top club” if he were to move to England.

As yet, there are said to be no offers from sides in that bracket and Leverkusen’s head of sports Simon Rolfes is cool about the situation.

“We are relaxed and have a long contract [2030],” he said, but adding: “There is also interest in Pala this year.”

Shock, horror. As if it was ever realistic. Fabrizio Romano not always accurate with his links.

It seems we made an 'enquiry', but no more than that. So the link may be accurate, but in posting it, Romano seriously over-inflated the significance of it, possibly because the agent wished to draw up some interest elsewhere ... or possibly not.

At a reported £124,000 per week, I should think so.

this is where you have a sensible conversation with player. Maybe we don’t have that person here now.
Our ambition has a limit I guess. When we have several players on our books that are no e we here near premier league level and we keep them around for a obscure reason, our standards will be way short of where it should be

He has only 23 starts in last two years for Leverkusen so he is kind of ”broken player” so high risk player as such.

And @EricWark we ended up with Adrian Paz !!!!!

Running out, such as?

Given that Al Hamadi Hirst Taylor Ogbone Palmer Philogene Humphreys and Harry Clarke have all be openly talked about joining other clubs Im wondering who else you think is nowhere near worth keeping?

We have to focus on players who would actually consider coming here not dreaming about ones who have turned their nose up at us, like Palacios who quite correctly points at us not being a "top club".

runningout - am interested to know which players the club are keeping for ‘obscure reasons’ and what those reasons are.

Isn’t he on €125000 a month? So was always never happening. The rumours about Romano cashing in on his reputation for being accurate by now getting paid by agents to lie might be wrong, but his hit rate has gone down significantly

Good there was a quick response on this so Town can move onto other targets. Plenty of players out there of similar profile to target instead. We are linked with 3 defensive midfielders at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get all 3 now that Florentino Luis is near on confirmed. Lukic played as an attacking midfielder and in the 10 before moving to Fulham so could also do a job in the 8 for us at a pinch too. That’s if we get him in that is. But do need another 8 in the building during preseason, so we don’t have any of those “time to gel” issues that can bite us in the arse like it did last season. Premier league will be less forgiving. Having a great window so far though!

The club makes lots of “enquiries” about players - that’s the starting point for all transfers and the majority never go any further. Good to know that we are at least looking to try and bring in next level players but at £120k a week, I can’t see us paying those sort of wages, nor should we as a newly promoted team at risk of relegation. If we manage to stay up this season, then things will change and we might be able to attract players of this calibre. Our recruitment has been good so far this summer, so it will be back to the data dashboard and onto the next target.

Bazza named them… We are not a big club as Palacios knows. Although if we have no one able to persuade him or others similar one way or the other, then our ambition is a small concern

It might be a tad irrational but I don’t want any Argies in my team (Mauricio being an honourable exception) due to the attitude and behaviour of their national teams in successive World Cups. I just couldn’t warm to them.

If he’s on £125k a week he won’t be interested in coming to us . Would be nice though

Not a realistic target tbh...

Runningout, yes I named them, but these are the players we expect to leave this month, not the ones we expect to still be here.

We've signed 7, we have 2 more in train and probably 2-3 more tops that will make all those names i mention surplus. And they will leave, hence the club isnt holding onto them, they are managing them out, gradually....

Don't think we will know if our recruitment has been good until after about 10/15 games. Looks good on paper though.

We are a "top club" and have more pedigree then his current one.... he won't be saying no when we are in Europe again in 5 years time, will he. Oh well, his loss....

Lol

As others have said, was probably never going to happen but exciting to be linked with this calibre of player. Who knows, stay up this year and this is the sort of player we will definitely be able to sign....just not him as he's pssed me off now ....

Onwards. COYB
