Burns Set For Leicester Medical

Blues winger Wes Burns is close to joining League One Leicester City.

Burns was absent from the Town squad which beat Le Havre 1-0 in a friendly at Portman Road last night and, as per the Daily Telegraph TWTD understands Burns is expected to undergo a medical with the Foxes today.

The move comes as something of a surprise with the Wales international, a key man in the three promotions under Kieran McKenna, signed a new one-year deal a month ago today.

If the deal is completed, Burns will become the second legendary figure from the McKenna era to move to the King Power Stadium, Conor Chaplin having made the switch earlier in the summer.

Burns, 31, was the first signing of the Gamechanger era when he came in from Fleetwood in the summer of 2021.

The one-time Bristol City trainee went on to make 132 starts and 32 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring 30 goals, among them some of the most memorable of the last few years.

Meanwhile, striker George Hirst continues to be linked with Stoke City, who are reportedly willing to pay up to £10 million for the Scotland international, who is also understood to be interesting Preston North End.

Gutted, but Fatawu is gonna start based on last night and the fact so few players shone. Am sure there is a gentlemen's agreement regarding his future and him/Chappers in League 1 is a cheat code....might have to start watching some Leicester games if they click again.....if you squint you might convince yourself it was 2022 again ! lol All the best Wes, whatever decision.

That Coventry goal will live in the memory forever as one of the best ever team goals finished of with one of the best ever strikes. in my opinion the best that i've seen in 50 years at Portman Rd.

blueboy1981 - don't agree with this, no one is saying big spending needed or assumptions that players are world beaters. Wes signed the new agreement when GON came in, I would assume that Leicester have rocked up and offered him a really decent package and importantly - game time. That would be better than we can give him. He'll be making the decision on what's best for him and his family.

I wouldn't be surprised if we offered him a contract but said if something better comes up, we won't stand in your way. All these lads have been given that privilege from the club which is excellent to see and better than any other club i'm aware of.

Also factor he had a major injury and is heading to the twlight of his career. Unfortunately, his going to suffer with that and sentiment aside, we don't want to be carrying a player in the 25 who could struggle with injuries throughout the season.

Of course we love Wes, but there's a stark reality of what's best for the club and he's not that.

OldFart71 added 10:41 - Aug 5 Presumably given a contract by KM and now possibly GON is looking at bringing in other players in that position. Or maybe just given the contract as he is and has been a very decent player and it was believed he had a worth and with GON stating he wants to keep McAteer he feels there's no place for Wes. Sad, but we are never irreplaceable even though a legend.

Come on, he was bobbins in the premier league last time around, and Leicester are cleverly bringing in the guys who got Ipswich out of League 1. Chappers and Burns reunited. If he's happy to drop down from Premier League to Division One, I think that tells you what he feels about where he can compete best. Big club, nice stadium, and he'll get to start games and score goals. Chappers and he will have some fun.

It was smart of the club to get an extension thereby commanding a fee but much as as all love Wes there must have been doubts over whether he’s prem quality. He looked uncomfortable to say the least in the few minutes he got last time round. Also there may have been more emotion than logic in that decision given the relationship with KM. GON was better placed to consider it objectively. Potentially moving McAteer to RWB looks like a strong move. Pace and strong on ball. I thought he looked decent at the game last night. Also based on the end of last season he can finish. Also youth on his side whereas Wes has age and injury record.

Then he came back last season, firing on all cylinders from the moment he walked back on the pitch. Really sad to see him leave - but ever more surprised to see him drop to League One! I would have thought any Championship team would be keen to bring him in.

StowTractor added 12:13 - Aug 5 A sad day but also an inevitable one. Was hoping to see Wesley come on as a sub and score a PL goal v Sunderland before he moved on! Reunited with Chappers. Leicester have gone from being the despised cheating rival whose financial misdemeanours 3 seasons ago robbed us of the Championship title by a single point to my now favourite L1 team!

I think that Wes could still have done a very good job in the prem however I do accept that there was also a large amount of sentimentality attached to my view on that. GoN however has been brought in to keep us up (then progress) so he has the benefit of zero sentimentality and will view players purely upon what he sees.

Some of these decisions sting a little bit but if we stay up then perhaps we will view the world slightly differently.

I like Wes. Whenever he plays he always gives 100% and we always look more balanced when he is on the field. Was very positive about playing in the PL when he signed his new contract. Obviously decided or been told he will be a back up player so has taken the decision to drop down a couple of leagues to play regular football. Assume a 2/3 year deal is on the table which gives him financial security until he’s 35 when he will probably either retire or play another couple of seasons at lower league or non league level.

Phil1969…O’Neil doesn’t know if we are doomed by Xmas he is gone…. He knows he will be gone before we are doomed if results are poor. The Club will lose tens of millions with a relegation and so they will pull the trigger much quicker than they would have with McKenna because he had credit in the bank. Oneil has had less than 3 full seasons in management and three clubs, 2 of them sacked him. He has zero accomplishments with us so he will be well aware a dismal start means dismissal
