Wrexham Linked With Palmer

Wrexham are reported to be showing interest in Blues keeper Alex Palmer.

The 29-year-old looks unlikely to play much part for Town this season following the signings of Kjell Scherpen and Kayne van Oevelen, and Christian Walton ahead of him in the pecking order.

According to the Daily Mail, Wrexham have asked about Palmer, who the Blues are said to value at around £3.5 million. The Welshmen have also spoken to Sunderland regarding Anthony Patterson, who the Black Cats are reported to price at £8 million.

Palmer joined Town from West Brom in February 2025 for £2 million plus add-ons. Since then, the Kidderminster-born glovesman has made 27 appearances appearances, losing his place to Walton after suffering an injury in October last year.

Has Scherpen got a knock or something. Very strange that he didn't play at all on Tuesday night, a full week after he was announced.

If that is the case it would be negligent to let Palmer leave before either he or Walton are fully recovered. I'm very impressed with the other new Dutch keeper and would be happy to start with him v Sunderland but the thought of Button on the bench, and potentially having to come on during a PL match fills me with dread.

Not really strange at all. A bit like when we signed Broadhead probably. Sherpen is 6ft 9 massive bloke. He's flying around and travelling around sorting out where he is living etc etc for the last week post joining. Hardly trained. His body was likely not in the right place to get straight into a game. I imagine travelling around that much as a hug bloke crammed into plane seat, car etc is not ideal to then producing on the pitch.

Much better to leave him out of the games for a week, get him into training environment and then play him for 60 or so on Sat.

Let's see. I really like the look of the other Dutch lad as well. Wouldn't be upset if he has the gloves to start with.

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 18:11 - Aug 7 I think Palmer is a good keeper and I wouldn't be particularly anxious if we had him in the PL. But this looks like a good move for him, given our recent Dutch acquisitions. Good luck to him.
