Lukic: One of the Best Atmospheres in the Premier League

New Blues signing Sasa Lukic is looking forward to playing at Portman Road in front of what he believes is one of the best atmospheres in the Premier League.

The Serbian international joined Town from Fulham yesterday, the clubs having agreed a £9 million fee, the 29-year-old signing a four-year deal.

“I am happy to be here,” he told TownTV. “This is a great club with rich history and I’m here to build it.

“I come here with a great ambition and a strong desire to help the team grow and improve every single day.”

Asked what fans can expect from him, the 62-times-capped Serbia international added: “I am a box-to-box player, I like to defend and attack, so you can expect everything.”

Lukic had been at Craven Cottage for three and a half years, having previously spent six and a half years with Torino in Serie A, during which time he had one season on loan in La Liga with Levante.

“I have a lot of experience,” he reflected. “And I’m more than ready to help the team and the players for the next season to achieve very good memories.”

Lukic was in the Fulham side which drew with Town twice in 2024/25, 1-1 in Suffolk in the August and 2-2 in London during the January.

The one-time Partizan Belgrade schemer remembers the Portman Road match very well.

“I played both of the games against Ipswich,” he recalled. “First of all, here, I played a really good game in maybe one of the best atmospheres in the Premier League.

“I’m so happy to be here and I hope I’m going to see our fans soon and have things to celebrate together. I can’t wait to get started.”

Lukic is the Blues’ second signing from Fulham this summer, central defender Issa Diop having joined the squad last month.

“I spoke with him two or three times [before making the move],” Lukic added. “I have a very good relationship with him and let’s hope [we can] build something together here in Ipswich.

“I can promise to Ipswich fans that I will give my best for this club and I’m more than ready for this season. We are going to be competitive, I’m sure of that.”

Benji1611 added 11:24 - Aug 9 From what the Fulham fan said on Talking Town, both Diop and Lukic were their reliable options when changing tactics didn't work. Nobody is happy that either have left and there is a bit of worry seeping in that they're putting too much faith in younger players without a contingency plan. They are 100% Prem quality signings. Uppa Towen!

I know some are excited and others are worried. Whatever happens to them, we could end up being the beneficiary's of having two very seasoned, solid pro's from them. And again, welcome to ITFC Sasa.

Of our signings Diop is perhaps the one I’m most happy about. Lukic may prove a good signing if he can reign in his love of yellow cards. Ultimately all teams sign players of varying levels of ability and that’s not always the key to their success or not. It’s about a team and how it functions. We do seem to be looking more likely to play 5 at the back and two defensive midfielders so it’s going to be about stealing points on the break which is what oneil did even when he took over wolves who were an established prem side.
