Valencia Eyeing Van Oevelen Loan

Valencia are interested in signing Blues keeper Kayne van Oevelen on loan, according to a Spanish report.

The La Liga club were keen on recruiting the 23-year-old on a permanent basis prior to his move to Town from Volendam but, despite having agreed personal terms, had been unable to settle on a fee with the Eredivisie side.

However, according to Levante EMV, Valencia have now revived their interest, wanting to sign Van Oevelen on loan for the season and have made contact with his representatives.

When Van Oevelen was signed in late July, the Blues were looking to send him out on loan for the season to a Championship club.

That plan was put on hold when Christian Walton suffered a foot injury in training, but manager Gary O’Neil said at the weekend that the former Brighton man is close to a return and will be with the squad which travels to Germany on Wednesday for a mini-training camp and friendly at Union Berlin on Saturday.

Town may now be willing to allow Van Oevelen, who has signed a five-year deal, out for the season in order to play regularly and gain further senior experience.

Championship sides Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Wrexham and Middlesbrough were all previously linked with loan interest in Van Oevelen, although since then Boro have brought in Manchester United’s Radek Vitek and the Welshmen have since signed Anthony Patterson from Sunderland.

I have a feeling Kayne may turn out to be one of the best bits of business we've done in a long while. It's early days to see how good a shot stopper he is, but his footwork and distribution was stunningly good against Rayo Vallecano. If he can dominate his area and stops shots, he is gonna be world class. And we got him for £3.5M. Much as I am so grateful to Christian Walton, I think it's problay better to loan out Christian and keep the two Dutchmen battling for the no.1 jersey.

Mark added 17:42 - Aug 11 He has only just arrived in England and may now be off to Spain?! Surely a decent loan fee and 100% payment of his wages would be required. After a good season in Spain he would be worth a lot more than we paid, but equally he could find himself on the subs bench over there and lose value.

It's a tricky one from the perspective of the small amount we've seen of both Dutch keepers. One thing we already know for certain, one of them has amazing distribution for a goalkeeper, but he's not going to find it that easy in the PL. Once teams there see what he can do with the ball at his feet ( if they haven't already ), its quite likely he'll be quickly closed down. I've heard on the grapevine ( I have no actual proof of it! ) that he needs to work on crosses and commanding the box more. Obviously at his age he's got plenty of time!

Scherpen, we've seen little of. We know what we saw on Saturday, but there's zero chance I'm judging a new keeper on that one display.

This is one I'll definitely leave to G O'N!

If you are chasing the game, he could be subbed on and would be like another sweeper/defender but with much better distribution to get us forward.....unbelievable how he threads passes that you cannot see !
