Town Agree Deal For Second Strasbourg Player

Town are reported to have reached an agreement with Strasbourg for a second player, full-back or midfielder Abdoul Ouattara.

Having come an accord with the Ligue 1 side, who were managed by Blues boss Gary O’Neil in the second half of last season, for ex-loanee Julio Enciso yesterday, FootMercato.net is reporting that the Paraguayan’s teammate Ouattara is set to join him at Town, the clubs and the player having accepted terms.

TWTD understands the fee is an initial £14 million plus £3 million in add-ons.

The 20-year-old came through the youth system at Strasbourg, joining them as a 13-year-old, having moved to France aged 10 from Cote d’Ivoire.

He joined the senior squad at 16 in 2021 and broke into the first team in 2024/25. Last season he scored twice in Ligue 1, playing in a variety of roles, usually in midfield, but often at right-back, before ending the campaign at left-back.

Given his age, Ouattara won’t count towards the 25-man Premier League squad.

Okay, like when a potential signing comes out of no where like this. Sounds like a promising youngster that fills multiple positions especially in the games when GON switches up the formation in some games. Also under 21 so means we know have at least 2 that won't count towards the limit (this guy and Egeli). If he ended the season in the full back positions I can imagine this is where GON will use him but be interesting to see which side or maybe both like Johnson

Gforce added 20:54 - Aug 12 Our defence still requires a lot of work,as it still has a very championship look about it. Diop certainly looks the part,not convinced the rest are Prem standard. Hopefully we've got 3/4 lined up before the window shuts.

We can certainly afford 15m on a young, promising versatile back up wing back Stato.... we'll have spent over 200m by the end of the window so that's small change.

I think this is such a clever signing, we need back up to Leif and Furlong and this covers both. Greaves and Johnson provide further back up. I think Furlong as starting RB is fine, he's a very solid defender and so good at the "dark arts" which will suit the premier league. I think this signing has us set at full back...

blues1 added 21:26 - Aug 12 Bluearrow. A typical town fan. Fans spent all last season, saying there were very few players in the squad good enough for the pl, that if we went up, wed pretty much need a whole new squad. Well, thats what we're getting. U then feel the need to say that?

No debate at all - to stand any chance of Prem’ survival the Club has done exactly what HAD to be done, and doing, after a previous failure.
Shame it couldn’t have been sooner than has been to allow new players to settle in and all to gel - but in fairness the World Cup event didn’t exactly help as a mitigating circumstance for sure.
Will it work ? - only time will tell, but the Club Owners above all deserve credit for ‘biting the bullet’ in significant investment.
Now Ashton, O’Neil and all, also deserve full backing from everyone in a massive challenge ahead.
Good Luck you Blues. 17th or better in May will do just fine and be the necessary platform to build on.
